the seasons already 1/4 over! I hate reading that

The timing of the Drew signing kind of makes sense for everyone. He doesn't have to worry about the qualifying offer, and I think the Sox realize Drew was just going to wait until after the draft to sign, so they weren't going to get a draft pick anyway. Drew misses out on about $4 million this year, but he should more than make up for it by not being attached to compensation what he's a free agent at the end of the season.cutuphalfdead wrote:Man, the Red Sox really know how to handle their infielders.
Moving Bogaerts is retarded. If he's going to be our shortstop beyond this season he needs to develop eventually. We either go throw his growing pains now or later, we're just putting that off.philpritchard wrote:The timing of the Drew signing kind of makes sense for everyone. Does Bogaerts move back to third now?
Exactly...we basically gave Bogaerts and Middlebrooks 4 weeks on the left side together (factoring in Middlebrooks' injuries) and then decided "nah, not working, let's get Stephen Drew back and pay him 10 million bucks rather than let this go for say, half a season or to the trade deadline"...fucking stupidcutuphalfdead wrote:Moving Bogaerts is retarded. Drew makes us better today, but he's not going to be the difference maker that gets us another title. It's a short sighted move that damages the long term development of our prospects, and the short term gain isn't even that much.
In their defense, I don't think they could have upgraded the left side without giving up prospects if they had waited even two more weeks. Once the draft passed, there would have been a ton of incentive for teams to sign him without giving up the pick. Right now, the Sox were really his only suitor.MattA75 wrote:Exactly...we basically gave Bogaerts and Middlebrooks 4 weeks on the left side together (factoring in Middlebrooks' injuries) and then decided "nah, not working, let's get Stephen Drew back and pay him 10 million bucks rather than let this go for say, half a season or to the trade deadline"...fucking stupidcutuphalfdead wrote:Moving Bogaerts is retarded. I don't see the issue in giving Middlebrooks as much time as possible this year at 3rd to either sink or swim...if he sucks all year, you find a replacement next year. If he hits .220 but hits 25 bombs, so be it. This organization can't develop right handed power to save their life, it won't kill them to give Middlebrooks as much time this year to try and blossom.numbers wrote:To me, this has more to do with them basically washing their hands of middlebrooks than the bogaerts position issue. X will still be playing a decent amount of short this year, with no spring training i can't imagine drew(of the drew family) being very durable.
See, I don't think they're going anywhere this year anyway, so I'd just leave them there all year and see what happens. You have to find out what these guys can and can't do. Two years ago Middlebrooks was awesome. Last year he sucked. Let this year be the deciding vote.philpritchard wrote:In their defense, I don't think they could have upgraded the left side without giving up prospects if they had waited even two more weeks. I agree though, for the most part. There's no way they should keep moving Bogaerts around.
me and a friend who I played ball with back in high school had a garage band that never made it out of the the garage and a few friends basements, but we always toyed with baseball related names, Walk-Off Balk, was one we really really liked as a band name. Cup-Check, 108 Stitches, Riding the Pine, Split-Fingers, Ducks on the Pond, my personal favorite was always Pinetar "why do you call yourself Pinetar?", "we needed a name that sticks, and well, it sticks" was the running joke.Joesanity wrote:Is there anything more anti-climactic than a bases loaded walk-off balk?
Yet he didn't bunt the other night when Bradley was up with no outs runner on first when down by a single run in the late innings.philpritchard wrote:I'm gonna be honest, it felt good watching John Farrell call for the sacrifice bunt with two on and none out in the 8th with his team trailing by three.
His on-field decision making is definitely lacking.cutuphalfdead wrote:Yet he didn't bunt the other night when Bradley was up with no outs runner on first when down by a single run in the late innings.philpritchard wrote:I'm gonna be honest, it felt good watching John Farrell call for the sacrifice bunt with two on and none out in the 8th with his team trailing by three.
