Why the hell does Crossfit do such weird pull-ups? They did a thing about Crossfit on 60 Minutes yesterday and every time the pull-ups showed up on screen I got very scared and upset.

I watched the crossfit games on tv back in July-ish; very impressive athletes competing in oddly specific moves(movements?).

Having limited personal experience with it, I think I mostly agree with that. It seems there is an abundance of unqualified "trainers" giving out expensive but poor coaching.

The university system reimburses staff if they purchase a FitBit and earn 1 million steps for the year. There are also several other incentives/challenges. It has really motivated a lot of people I work around to be more active in their daily activities.

I don't "work out" but I average about 12,000-13,000 steps a day (about 5.5 miles) with just normal walking around and giving the dog a walk. It amazes me that several people don't even get to 5,000.

That's the crux of it, every friend I have that went through crossfit has gotten injured in some fashion.

Yeah. Properly trained 20something-year-old athletes should be doing those kinds of dynamic moves. Not 40-year-olds trying to lose 20 lbs. before a high school reunion.

Also, that kind of intensity is not sustainable.

I don't think anyone should do that kind of pull-up. It's frightening. And it looks way too easy. It's not even a pull-up.

That is cheating if that is considered a pull-up. You can't swing your body to use momentum to get you up there. You are defeating the purpose of the pull-up if you do that.

Been to the gym three of the last four days. But coming up I'm probably only going to be able to go once in the next five or six days. Kind of how things have been for me lately.

I've never eaten the pizza or the bagels. Pizza night is by far the most crowded night of the month.

I've bailed on gym because I've started walking from work, and it's a LOT more pleasant, even though it's 6 miles every day.
