Hated it, but I think Singer is a consistently shitty director, with the exception of Usual Suspects (Apt Pupil didn't suck either). His movies just look so flat and lifeless to me, and Superman Returns was no exception. There were other problems I had with it, but that's the primary one.

Interesting; I would have thought, given that movie's direct lineage of the Donner movies, it would have been more in line with what you wanted.

I like Superman Returns and Singer's first X-Men movie a lot, but I can totally see what you mean about his "lifelessness." That's how I feel about Gore Verbinski.

Totally! Verbinski does have a similar look, huh?
