They're gonna win 8 in a row and get right back in it!
I think dealing Drew later this year is a great idea.numbers wrote:At what point is it time to start considering moving guys like Lester and Drew? Mid June? July 1st?
Don't move Lester, pay Lester.numbers wrote:At what point is it time to start considering moving guys like Lester and Drew? Mid June? July 1st?
I like Lester, but I really dont like the idea of signing him into his late 30's at big money. This is a rare occasion where I am with them on their miserly treatment of a current player.cutuphalfdead wrote:Don't move Lester, pay Lester.numbers wrote:At what point is it time to start considering moving guys like Lester and Drew? um, you pay a guy like lester or that guy goes and plays for the yankees. they can fucking afford paying lester "into his late 30's at big money." unlike the yankees they have the farm system to fill out the roster with "above-replacement" level players at other positions.numbers wrote:I like Lester, but I really dont like the idea of signing him into his late 30's at big money. but why do it if the likely outcome is you get 2 more good years out of him and then pay 20m+ a year for 4 more bad, injury riddled seasons after that? If the Yankees want to do that, that's fine for them, but it's not smart business to me. Sure they can afford it, but that doesnt mean they should if it's a bad deal. I hate how much I sound like some BBWA Boston member here, but with this specific player, that's how I feel.elliseamos wrote:um, you pay a guy like lester or that guy goes and plays for the yankees. they can fucking afford paying lester "into his late 30's at big money." unlike the yankees they have the farm system to fill out the roster with "above-replacement" level players at other positions.numbers wrote:I like Lester, but I really dont like the idea of signing him into his late 30's at big money. I dunno, he's had a huge workload and has been in the major leagues since he was 21(I think.) He's never had a legit arm injury that I can remember, which means it's only a matter of time for him.cutuphalfdead wrote:Lester's 29. You're getting more than 2 more good years out of him.
Yeah, he's been durable his entire career so he's bound to fall apart.numbers wrote:I dunno, he's had a huge workload and has been in the major leagues since he was 21(I think.) or that he can be relied on for the better part of a deal that's longer than 4 years.numbers wrote:I dunno, he's had a huge workload and has been in the major leagues since he was 21(I think.) I agree with what you said about the Jacoby/Pedroia thing, I just dont have faith thats much more left in the tank with Lester. Also, as well as he did last year in the playoffs, he still kind of has the stink of what went on the two previous years for me.elliseamos wrote:or that he can be relied on for the better part of a deal that's longer than 4 years.numbers wrote:I dunno, he's had a huge workload and has been in the major leagues since he was 21(I think.) the yankees issue is that they seem like they HAVE to spend to build their roster. the sox can be picky, and with a guy like jacoby, it makes sense to bet that his skills are going to deteriorate quicker than somebody like dustin.
i can understand the chicken&beer grudge, but this guy's been a part of two world series champion teams. TWO. I never thought I'd see this team win 1, let alone 3, and he's been a part of 2 of them.numbers wrote:I agree with what you said about the Jacoby/Pedroia thing, I just dont have faith thats much more left in the tank with Lester. I wouldn't go past 5/100cutuphalfdead wrote:I'm hoping they can get it done for 6/110.
and i'd have no problem with them offering 4/110+ with a 5th year option like that of Lackey's where it'd vest.numbers wrote:I wouldn't go past 5/100cutuphalfdead wrote:I'm hoping they can get it done for 6/110.
That would be fine with me. I'm basically just opposed to going past 5 years for him.elliseamos wrote:and i'd have no problem with them offering 4/110+ with a 5th year option like that of Lackey's where it'd vest.numbers wrote:I wouldn't go past 5/100cutuphalfdead wrote:I'm hoping they can get it done for 6/110.
Don Sutton asked if they had considered calling The Hague instead of New York on the radio broadcast.CopperTom wrote:That was the strangest pitching change I've ever seen. They needed to use replay to determine eligibility. I am opposed to that use of replay.
