You can't be serious. Actually I don't like hard games much either, but I can still see the appeal.

Hardcore mode in New Vegas is a bit of a lie. It's not very difficult, just more realistic. It just added another layer of realism and made it less gamey. It's not like there is a real shortage of supplies in that game.

To me that stuff is exactly the opposite of grindy or gamey. I never felt like I was grinding in fallout. When one shitty weapon breaks, I pick up another shitty weapon and soldier on.

It's what warriors do, LV. How are you ever gonna survive in the future wasteland? No wonder you didn't like Mad Max.

That's actually interesting, though; I've never heard it framed quite like that. It sounds like we both want the same thing: an immersive experience. Except what creates that for us is different. I think part of the issue for me is that I generally suck at videogames, so those kinds of "realistic" mechanics just wind up making me frustrated because I die a lot, and that breaks the immersion for me. It takes me out of the experience, especially because while it sounds like you want emulation of a reality, I want to become involved in narrative, characters, world. I was very interested in getting through the story in Fallout 3, but the game's punishing, obnoxious mechanics kept halting my progress. It became annoying.

I was going to say you just sound like a dude that isn't very good at video games.

A lot of those games start out kinda challenging but then definitely ease up, especially if you're an over-preparer like me. I spend the first part of any game like Fallout 3 leveling up and consolidating weapons, health packs, etc. so that I have a lot of breathing room to just chill and explore. Then it becomes one of the best games of all time.

Two things:

-Telltale's Game of Thrones is consistently one of the best things I've ever played. Crazy amounts of intensity and unpredictability.

-The campaign in Mortal Kombat X is great and how I hope future installments push this idea even further.

What are your thoughts on The Wolf Amongst Us?

I liked it quite a bit and it had one of my favorite moments in gaming, but I think it's the weakest of Telltale's recent series.

Well, Borderlands is only two episodes in so far, but I actually thought the first episode was one of their absolute best. It had a refreshingly ambitious sense of scale.
