Chuck Klosterman made the argument that the Dixie Chicks were the new Van Halen in the late 90s/early 00s.

Yeah, they're my wife's favorite band of all time. She's never seen them live. We saw The Court Yard Hounds a few years back, which was fun. But we've been wanting this for a long time. Seeing them on Monday night in NYC. Sister & Brother in law are flying in for it. It's gonna be so great. Check one more off the bucket list.

For some reason I've been listening to Tomahawk's Oddfellows lately. Much better than what I gave it credit for when it came out.

Also, I re-listened to Audioslave's first album, and I now definitely think it's better than any Soundgarden album.

I love Oddfellows...from the amazing artwork to the feeling of the album. Maybe it helps that i saw the band around that time, so its special for me.

As for Audioslave, i have been listening to them or to anything Cornell oriented proyect this past month, and its just massive. Its a really amazing album, the music is just...big and loud. You should check Revelations now.

Out of exile is a step back for me. There are a few very good songs, but overall feels like the band is trying to be more poppy...its not my favorite.
Revelations is a mix between the first one and some very cool r&b, soul and funk ideas...My thoughts are that they were heading into a very interesting place when they broke up.

I've always thought SG were pretty overrated, though. I haven't even bothered listening to King Animal.

Well, i disagree with that.

I guess the notion of SG is mostly tied with them being a hard rock, grunge band..and they are actually way better than that...SU and DOTU might be the two greatest back to back albums from the 90s..and their growth as a band is something pretty spectacular from Louder than love to Dotu...and thats because of their talent as songwriters.

Im still amazed with DOTU.

They have some really good songs, for sure. But I don't love any of their albums front-to-back.

If you can find it - and it's a big if - there's an EP that was released at the same time as Revelations. It's got an extended version of Moth that is amazing.

Il check this out now...you think they hated eachother? Im not sure...they seem very friendly these days...i think they reach to a point were the band or Cornell wasnt going to into trying a really different approach...There is a Cornell quote about that, about how he felt the band wasnt really going into a different direction like SG from Badmotorfinger to SU.
I have the feeling that Chris wanted to go back into the solo route again, now with a more stadium idea in mind. He actually did that.

I might actually agree with him. Superunknown is the one thing that keeps me from absolutely agreeing. Superunknown might be better than that first Audioslave album. MAYBE.

But he's right about SG not having any albums that I adore and listen to front to back. I've certainly listened to that first Audioslave album front to back more often than I've listened to Superunknown front to back.

I can see how this might make sense in a world where variety or subtlety in song writing and performance are not considered of value.

Cochise, Show Me How to Live, and The Last Remaining Light are all better than any SG song. Also, every SG album has a ton of filler.

I like all the members of SG but I feel like they kind of bring out the worst in each other.
