I can't believe how tight it was for a first attempt! Ed not playing guitar obviously helps. Surprisingly faithful to the studio version too, right down to the outro :nice:
Yes. All the Gigaton songs have been pretty tight so far. The band seems well rehearsed and Ed's voice is sounding pretty strong too
Maybe the 2 years off due to COVID helped give his voice a rest.
I didn't see him smoking through ohana....maybe thats something

I hope he's given it up. Selfishly, I'd like a few more years of that voice in my life, and I'm sure his girls would like to keep him around for years beyond that. Fucking smokes.

I love the last couple of minutes of retrograde. The faraway vocal and just the crashing of it all. Wish it went on longer. Sounds like the pearl jam jams from all the way back.

For me, there are a lot of moments like that on this record. For instance, the endings of Who Ever Said, Quick Escape and River Cross all evoke that loose inventiveness that used to define this band for me.

Completely agree. I’ve said since I first heard it If you told me quick escape was some demo from the ten era that they rediscovered and dusted off, I’d have no problem believing it.
There’s so much brilliant stuff on this record. The songs and many particularly moments within them.

Better than the last 3 albums, but not quite up there with the first 7 (masterpieces). As good as anything we could have hoped for.

I've cooled on this a bit. But I don't mean that in any kind of disrespectful way. I still think it's a fantastic record that I spin very frequently. But as time goes on and the utter shock of such a great PJ record so late in their career settles... I think I probably agree. It's difficult to rank this above those first seven records. But I don't fault anyone who does. If any of their latter day output is worthy of doing so, it's Gigaton.

That really would be the best case scenario.

This is a Fucking fantastic album

There is no debate.

It’s up there with their best.

Yeah, every time I listen to it I start to come over here to wonder aloud whether it's in my top five, or four, or three. Usually I stop myself, but not this time.
