I definitely like it more than S/T and pretty sure more than Riot Act. Listening to it again this morning for the first time in ages, it was just fantastic. I really really hope they can achieve something like it again at least one more time.

The album has certainly settled a bit for me. It's 100% the best album they've released since Riot Act.

Its probably my favorite since Riot Act as well but i will also agree that it might be a tad Ed heavy and wonder what it might have been if a couple of his tracks were left off in favor of a jeff or stone track.

I actually really love all of eds songs on here but certainly can appreciate whoever said, super blood, and never destination all come from the same cloth and could maybe do without 2 of them.

I have it about tied with S/T at this point.

Agree with Strat that it's too Ed heavy and specifically needs more Stone, but what else is new?

Sure, the what-if game is fun to play. I'd love to see Near on the album instead of Never Destination, for example. But that's a game we could play with just about every single PJ record. S/T would have been better with Let It Ride... or Down should have been on Riot Act... or how could they leave Sad off of Binaural?!

It's fun but it's not really a factor for me when I think of how these pieces speak to each other or how they stack up against each other.

i think in the case of Gigaton it's more of a worthy thought experiment because ed has 5 songs credited to him - that's quite a lot.

not that i dislike the songs, but you can have either SBWM or Never Destination - can't have 'em both.

This is why I'm discouraged hearing about Ed's producer being (it seems) in line to produce the next PJ record. I don't want Ed to have more power. Less would be ideal, as much as I love what he brings to the band.

Mostly, I couldn't tell you write what until I get on RM and see the discourse about it. Letting go of that, it's just songs. And all of the songs (besides Never Destination) on Gigaton are really strong, regardless of who gets the credit. The songs speak for themselves.

ed has a pretty specific flavor that they just don't need 5 times on one album. i can pick it out without looking at song credits but then again i'm a certified pearl jam expert and member in good standing of the jamily and also stone's bitch.

Boy do I want more Stone and Jeff flavor! Mike seems best as a flavor enhancer, and I'm hit or miss on Matt songs (one an album I'm good with). I get that Ed has always been their primary songrwriter, but Stone and Jeff have such worthy musical attitudes that I want to hear expressed more.

Watt seems to be a huge fan of PJ and i can bet that includes stone and mike. Shit, he was playing what i believe is a mccready strat on wishlist last night. respecting the OG. I think he GETS pearl jam being a big fan of the band.

So, who knows, maybe he'll tell stone to bring out those funky riffs again.

Hell, watt (I ASSUME) was even able to get the band to jam on that old porch riff last night. He went to shows with "let me play the alive solo"

Ed only wrote one song (Porch) on Ten and two on Vs (RVM, Small Town).

That was the whole basis of the band's so-called 'power struggle', that Stone was displaced as the band's de facto leader and musical director (arguably for the worse).
