Called it months ago. He’s going for emergency powers in order to stay on office.

Not even during the Civil War. I’m mostly concerned for whether or not Fox and others will advocate for it in response. The president can’t delay an election, but trying to run elections while 20 million people believe you’re rushing through to “steal” it from them will go poorly for all of us.
Also, the economy.

Yeah, I think most of us saw that coming a mile away. The Constitution is very specific on when Election Day is though.

McP's right about the psychological impacts Trump's idea will have on his supporters as we head into November, but I'm pretty confident this was just a way for him to bump the GDP headline. I'm starting to think he might actually just bail on re-election altogether.

Without guarantees from the Dems and NY State that he and his family are protected/safe from charges, bailing isn't an option.

I'm pretty sure we called this back in November 2016.

And
17 million Americans filing for ongoing unemployment benefits.
But I don’t believe that he is calculated enough to weigh the worth of one headline against the other. Not anymore. This isn’t 2016 Donald Trump. This is “person woman man camera TV“ Donald Trump.

Im not convinced. All it takes is a trump tweet for his supporters to start rallying behind it, putting pressure on republican lawmakers, next thing you know you have rep senators not really denouncing trumps statements.....

Ernst, this morning: no comment
McConnell: no comment
Pompeo: “In the end, the Department of Justice and others will make that legal determination.“
The head of the Department of Justice yesterday, under oath, **would not say whether or not the president has the authority to postpone elections**

It would be SUCH a ridiculous gamble for the GOP: Postpone elections and hope that President Fuckwit gets the economy back on track while also finding a vaccine for the 'rona? And seeing "constitutional crisis" headlines every day in the interim? It could pay off, but I'd like to think that cooler heads will prevail.

Hasn't RM already determined that elections are run by the states themselves and can't be postponed by the federal government?

Sure, but Barr is the wildcard element in all of this

I don’t think an active support for this action is incoming. But losing Trump voters would be catastrophic to many Republican Senators, and at this stage they would be unlikely to win over anyone for whom “not pushing back against Trump“ was a dealbreaker. they have nothing to gain from getting involved either way.
