Pitchfork gave it a 6.7. Wow. Is that a record for anything PJ associated?

So basically, only Vitalogy and Vs. have received better reviews than Earthling.

I quite like this. It's really fun and catchy. He also sounds very good.

If he can get these fun/inessential songs out of his system and save the more meaty stuff for Pearl Jam then I'm all for it.

IIRC Pitchfork gave Yield 8.5 back when it came out but I can't see it on their website.

Yeah I don't really read Pitchfork much so can't say but they are missing a few albums.

I checked if they'd reviewed other Eddie albums and I could only find Ukulele Songs (6.4).

Regardless, I know I don't have to take Pitchfork seriously if they gave the Rearviewmirror compilation a 5.9.

It’s a nice breezy listen. I think there is definitely an area outside of the main canon of albums where the members of PJ can write without the weight of that catalog. It’s why Lost Dogs was so refreshing at the time, it has a rough take and quirky side of a smaller band.

Still not digging The Haves… it’s a waaaaaay too schmaltzy to be about a homeless couple, all they have is each other but everyday must be so fucking rough. Ed’s production and lyrics sound like a teenage debs ball dance from the 90’s. Chris Cornell wrote a song called Dead Wishes about a homeless person struggling for dignity that was well produced but understood and conveyed what he imagined they went through much much better.

Other than that it’s a pleasantly surprising album and another good release from PJ members after the excellent Gigaton (and hoping that Painted Shield 2 clears the bat set by the first album)

I wish On My Way was longer.

The spoken word bit at the start of Invincible reminds me of a Van Morrison song but I can't place it.

I enjoy the rest of the song but love that intro, even if on paper it sounds like the fucking stupidest thing ever.

I really thought I'd wake up to a digital copy since I spent $125 on this album. Should've known 10C better than that.

This is way better than I expected.

Power of Right is amazing.

Oh, and I don't know who chooses the singles in Eddie's camp, but he/she should be fired inmediately.

Now that I look back, I think it was a masterstroke. Eddie lowered expectations by releasing the 2 weakest songs on the album as the first two singles.

Brother The Cloud though was a fantastic choice for a single, should have been lead single in all seriousness.

Agree. 3rd single... jeeeezzzz.

Try is the best track.

Mrs. MILLS, Totally holds up as a late 60's.early 70`s Paul McCartney song.

Standouts after my first listen are Invincible, Power of right, Fallout Today, The Dark, Try, Brother the cloud and Mrs Mills.

I've never been into Eddie's punk/rock/catchy-agressive songs like Rose of Jericho or Good and evil (very good bridge here, btw). Don't sound bad, though, and will probably grow a little bit on me.

Power of right is good shit. The bass on Try is good shit too (and on POR). And Mrs Mills is Eddie channeling his inner Paul McCartney, and I love it.

Very cool closer, too, could have been a little longer.
