Take or leave the video.
But the single is fire! Very sexy. Very pre-disco 70s and kinda porn-y. Definitely grittier than anything from the last two records. Some funky and loud guitars. I fucking LOVE this song.
It'll take a while I think for the lyrics to sink in because it's a very specific thing she's doing. But first impression is really strong.
If it's possible I may be even more excited for the new record.

I pre-ordered the vinyl. It took all I had not to also grab a sweatshirt, t-shirt, and hat.
Maybe once my unemployment money finally arrives.

Great read about Clark and what's behind the new record:
Six albums in, Clark has considered her balance sheet. The woozy Melting of the Sun celebrates her heroes Joan Didion, Joni Mitchell, Nina Simone and Tori Amos – women whose “particular genius was not recognised at the time, or when they spoke out they weren’t listened to or they were actively suppressed. What they were doing was powerful, but they were met with a hostile world.” She compares herself unfavourably with them: “But me, I never cried / To tell the truth, I lied.” She says she hopes she has not denigrated their legacy. “I hope I wasn’t a coward when you guys were brave.”

New York is a main character on the record — the mysterious Johnny, a rough-and-tumble friend whom she’s mentioned on several past albums, makes an appearance as “Bowery John” — but Clark’s part-time home of L.A. turns up too. On the psychedelic “The Melting of the Sun,” she muses on women who have been crushed or otherwise mistreated by the entertainment industry, Joni Mitchell and Marilyn Monroe among them. “People tried to quiet them when they were saying something that was righteous or true or hard to hear,” Clark says. “[That song] in particular is a love letter to strong, brilliant female artists. Each of them survived in an environment that was in a lot of ways hostile to them.”
Daddy’s Home is an album that’s teeming with life and loss, backup vocals and brass sections — which, naturally, leaves Clark dreaming about how it will all work onstage, whenever touring is possible again. “The last record and the tours I did were full multi-media assaults,” she says. “[This time], I will be excited to just play. Just people onstage playing music and killing it, without all the spectacle.”

The more I read up about Annie's thought and creative processes, her inspirations and challenges in making this record the more confident I am that this album will be great.
Thematically (though we didn't know until now) it holds hands with Strange Mercy. But clearly she'd not interested in just retreading the same musical ground she did on that record. That's so fucking exciting to me.

The album includes lots of first takes; the idea was to abandon perfection, “which often can cause one psychic pain”, she says. “Just to play and be truly free and in the flow; for things to have the logic of water instead of skyscrapers.”
“We don’t become good fighters without leaving some blood on the mat,” she says. “We need to be honest with ourselves when we are luxuriating in the mud of schadenfreude – when we are putting on a mask of piety while actually delighting in sadism. There seems to be a new religion of our time, one obsessed with a reframed moral purity in thought and action. But we have to have room for compassion and empathy and change and redemption.”
