I like to smoke occasionally still.......but not upon first listen of anything. Perception is everything.
And believe it or not....I wasn't stoned when I came up with my username.

I don't know man, the Ole' single and Xmas single since Backspacer have to be up there with it.

To be perfectly honest.......I'm a huge fan of the California Coast. Love the water.....met many cool people who surf, and over the yrs, wished I could move there and live the life. That's what I actually relate the name to.
I like the band as well.

Listening to 'No Way' again, I'm surprised how low Stone's first guitar is under the mix. At the moment I'd say it might be comparable to 'Infallible'; hopefully that builds in the same way.

Also, still listening to Yield, I'm reminded how subtle and hushed Ed's voice used to be when he wasn't in his high register or screaming. Now everything is so over-pronounced and bombastic. Shame really.

The 98 and 2000 tour, his voice sounds really thin and reedy. The screeching happened later I think.

Yeah I don't mean the screeching.

This album, more than any album in the past, has me re-visiting past albums and appreciating them so much more. Not because these songs are sub-par, though. Just because they are so good that they have me energized again and really loving "my" band.

I'm still waiting to find out how much I'll enjoy the album, and for how long. But at the very least, I think it's easier to find their "history" in these songs than in anything from S/T and Backspacer, which, to a greater or less extent, didn't sound very "Pearl Jam" to me. I'm making connections to Riot Act, Binaural and Yield with this stuff, and it frustrated me that I couldn't do that in the last few years. So far it looks as if LB could've come right after Riot Act for me. That's not to say I don't like a few songs off the last two.

We've managed to create 42 pages in about three days.
