Idles are a really good band who have some incredible stuff on their new record, which I suspect is them at the height of their powers. Fifth record is usually a good one for flexing might. It’s always been really weird to me to be able to hear The Streets so clearly reflected in a really good band .

They’re probably second only to King Gizzard in terms of bands I’ve gotten into in the last 4 years.

Aesthetically, there’s next to no overlap to them and what a track like Dark Matter is pursuing, and I don’t think either release speaks negatively on the other. There is zero reason to shit on either of these products.

King Gizzard is great. Also one of the "newest" bands I've gotten into. I'm old enough and crotchety enough now that any band I discover that have existed at any point in the past decade is considered "new".

I think the thing Ms. Harmless and I have most in common is we have huge people/trust issues so when we latch onto an artist, once we've found one that we've deemed worthy, it's nearly impossible to detach. And when we're introduced to a bold new artist such as this, it's difficult to trudge through their exterior to find the gold beneath. I'm sure IDLES has a lot to offer, but I don't currently have the energy or desire to dig, and maybe all of the vacancies for the artists I love have been filled. Kudos to Strat, Ello, Trag, and the rest of you street thugs for having room in your hearts for an artist as bold and pornographic as IDLES, and shame on the rest of us in our timid little nooks with our 30 year old, ragged teddy bears and smelly blankets.

how does this explain Sleep Token being my favourite band? II plays like Dave A., that has something to do with it

Yeah that's what I'm saying! If I love something new, it's because it reminds me of or is related to something I already loved. I fell in love with Phoebe Bridgers because of her love for Elliott Smith, for example.

Not that that's a bad thing or anything.
