Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Americanah is profound and breathtaking. It's so smart and nuanced. I think everyone should read this book.

Film adaptation[edit]

In January 2009, filmmaker Neil Jordan signed on to write and direct a film adaptation to Miramax. In April 2012, Walt Disney Pictures acquired the rights and hired Henry Selick, director of The Nightmare Before Christmas and the film adaptation of Gaiman's novel Coraline, to direct The Graveyard Book.[27] After the studio and Selick parted ways over scheduling and development, it was announced in January 2013 that Ron Howard will direct the film.[28]

Laika would make an awesome version of this.

Graphic novel adaptation[edit]

Artist P. Craig Russell along with Galen Showman, Kevin Nowlan, Jill Thompson, David Lafuente, Stephen Scott, Scott Hampton and Tony Harris has adapted the book into a two-volume graphic novel. The first volume was released on 29 July 2014, followed by the second on 7 October.[29]

If you can find it, this is also very enjoyable. Both combine like transformers or voltron to make something bigger than their parts, it's great.

Read that one first, then Anansi Boys. Also, Neverwhere. I just purchased his Norse Mythology, but only just started reading it.
