Wait, isn't this already taken by The Prodigy?

But at this point I don't care one bit about new studio stuff translating well to a live setting. The days of the epic 3+ hours shows are mostly, if not entirely, gone. Ed's voice can't do what it used to do, and those shortcomings are most apparent at a show.

Gigaton is a studio-based treasure, and if they can somehow crank out another one of similar quality, I would take it in a heartbeat even if exactly zero of the songs held up on stage.
Totally agree.

Sometimes it sounds like Ed is purposefully trying to sound even older..

I did the same thing recently. This one connected with me in a special way.

probably, evidence suggests he's embarrassed and ashamed of his younger days

Retrograde soars at the end and you think, “what a great way to end an album”

Then River Cross plays. :?

the album has a nice, slow finish, like a staggered, romantic orgasm

river cross, lyrically and in the performance, is supposed to be wearing its miles. Its a ‘hope at the end of all things’ kind of song. Its a counterpoint to Retrograde and helps it avoid being a pollyanaish ending to the album

totally agree; also, it's in a long line of spiritual "fireside" PJ songs; it's no more or less Kumbaya than Present Tense or whatever

There are probably nice things to be said about River Cross. It succeeds at achieving what it wants to achieve I guess. For me it’s in the top 5 most unlistenable songs they’ve ever made. I almost always skip it. Too bad Ed didn’t play Comes Than Goes instead of RC at that silly zoom global show.
