my question was to Broken Iris.

As Doc mentioned, probably because the pace in the LB thread is at an almost frenetic level. This baby here moves at a much more digestible pace. Also, the nexus of negativity, or the Negative Nancy's, whatever you want to call them, seem to be running that joint.VinylGuy wrote:I feel i should like SW more. Its a pretty good song but i dont know why, i just dont care that much for it.
Also, i love posting here instead of the LB thread. Maybe because of the people who post there.
Thanks! It took me all morning... and now I'm going to be late as fuck for work!Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:love the review bluestate
Jeff. I don't think BoB was there when he recorded it with someone else.bluestate wrote: Here's another interesting question, related to what I said above about BoB? Who's idea was it to add the bowed guitar? Jeff or BoB? Hmmmm.... Perhaps the best PJ song since Of the Girl. - 5/5
yeah, maybe not the negativity but the need some users have to just be so violent towards the others is exhausting. Im glad we can discuss this album here.bluestate wrote:As Doc mentioned, probably because the pace in the LB thread is at an almost frenetic level. It was just a lot of new material at once since I had never heard Infallible, Swallowed Whole, LTRP, or Yellow Moon before last night. It gave the show a slightly different vibe since it's the first time I have seen them where I didn't already know all the songs. I guess I felt more like what a casual fan must feel like at the show; a little lost.
So have you heard it yet? Did you post your thoughts somewhere yet?broken iris wrote:stip wrote:my question was to Broken Iris.

For the most part, this is my take on the album too.Tass Man wrote:Ok, I've given it one listen, so here are my initial thoughts:
I'm really pleased overall with the album... I think my initial response to these songs has been more positive than the last 4 albums... But I'm not about to give it a ranking yet (I can legitimately see it in the upper half though). There weren't any songs that I did not like, just a couple that I'm indifferent on..
I really like Getaway, My Father's Son, Infallible, Pendulum, and Yellow Moon... I heard all of them but Getaway on Saturday at the show and thought they sounded great (except MFS, it was just a wall of noise, so I had no opinion on it), so it's good that they translate well live.
Lightning Bolt, Sirens, Future Days (seriously, I don't get the hate for this), and Sleeping By Myself were all good. I'll be interested to see how my opinion changes on these ones over time.
The weakest songs for me we're Let The Records Play and Swallowed Whole. Again, neither of them terrible, but just not really doing anything for me right now.
All in all, I'm pretty pleased with the album. Although I agree that there isn't a good flow to the record, I don't think its a deal breaker (for me). I think it's a pretty strong collection of songs, and look forward to exploring them more over the next little while.
I'm glad I held out to listen to it as a whole.

Nope. BoB's keyboard "bookends" sound like helpless kittens being tortured, and it's precisely because I don't want to listen to that that the song is... eh.southp wrote:harmless wrote:On the other hand, there are people who never heard the leak who still think LTRP is junk and FD is close to being junk.
Anyone who doesn't like FD either has a heart of stone or enjoys torturing helpless kittens.
The ending of the album works very well yeah...i would changes places with sirens and LB maybe. And Yellow Moon is a closer for sure...overall they did a great job.southp wrote:Are we at a point now were we can say that the NLCers seem to have some diverging opinions compared to the Leakers? It may be due to a proper full-album experience, or possibly due to an LB-thread negative vortex but it seems like we appreciate some of the lesser-liked songs. For example, I'm seeing a lot more FD love here (myself included), and maybe even LTRP.
From my perspective the ending of the album works extremely well, and maybe it's the sequencing that actually brings FD up. Additionally, LTRP acts as a break between the experimental middle section, and then the sombre ending. Likewise, I had never heard Sirens until Monday, and I really like the way it cuts through the din of the first three - so much so that it's one of my early favourites on the album.
Lastly, I'm still finding poor MFS lost in the post-MYM rubble and then forgotten by the emotive power of Sirens. Then again I've only heard it 5 times at this point, so it's not counted out yet.
Anyone else noticing different opinions between those who have digested the album whole compared to those who spoiled their dinner?
To each their own. Now, I'm not looking at you specifically, but I do believe that this type of anti-BOB group-think is bringing down some people's enjoyment of a great song. I find the piano and keyboard layers on FD to be fantastic, and they add a lot to a song that could be boring on acoustic only. Same can be said for the backing vocals on FD, and the full band rendition of SBM. We're nowhere near Phil Spector levels here.harmless wrote:Nope.
