I recall that too, but there are strong parallels between the Irish experience and Palestine (it's a unique perspective that I doubt anyone else here can relate to), so if something slips out that crosses the line from anti-Zionism to something else, a bit of understanding is probably the best course.

This sub forum would be a total waste of time if it was just liberal dudes agreeing on stuff. I appreciate the BI’s of the board. But I get what Orpheus is saying too. I didn’t take that as him siding with Dime, more pointing out that BI has a way of wanting there to be a certain answer - usually one that seems driven by a need to make liberals appear wrong. And maybe liberals are sensitive to this because it seems to be more and more what the “right half” of the country is about. ?? I just let this stuff ride these days, it’s not worth the stress. And conversing with the people who we disagree with is the best way to sharpen our own arguments.

I didn’t take it that Bi was attacking what I said or arguing at all. It’s just the American perspective on all this comes from a very particular angle with a really limited view on this board and in in media and in general. Always has.
That seems to be changing now to a degree and all to the good.

And schoolboy I do point a finger at the British and it’s more than deserved. They haven’t ‘done a solid’ for anyone. Ever. They are in fact at the heart and instigation of most of the worlds historical conflicts. And I mean globally. There are countless parallels with what we’re still dealing with in Ireland and Northern Ireland and Palestine. The British have sold £400 million in arms and ordinance since 2015. They’re complicit.
Only yesterday the anniversary of the Dublin and Monaghan bombings which they carried out and that’s just one event in a long bloody history of many bloody events.
I won’t take lectures from anyone trying to defend the brits but I’d like to see anyone try. They’ve even stopped teaching their own colonial history in schools and colleges as it’s that embarrassing. Work from there.


** for starters a lot of the regiments of the Black and Tans who plagued Ireland and carried out atrocities on the regular, were moved to Palestine directly after leaving Ireland. These were men with serious PTSD and they were brutal and inhumane as a prerequisite. It goes on from there.

I don't think the world is dumbing this down to oppressor vs oppressed. I think people can differentiate between Hamas and the vast majority of Palestinians who are not part of Hamas. In total that's millions of people who are victims of this, and have no power.

And yet what? That's a picture of Palestinians failing to make a dent in Israel's defenses right before Israel mowed down 100 innocent victims in retaliation.

Look, no one should defend Hamas, they're terrorists. But if people are going to defend Israel's right to kill Palestinian civilians because terrorists might be hiding behind them, then they're disconnected from their humanity.
