Its subtle. Somewhat unique. Not trying to be catchy or anthemic but just lets the song speak for itself. There's groove.

The way the song is written feels natural. Both outro's feel like a natural progression of playing the instrument rather than shoehorning in some massive anthemic outro. Creates a more authentic emotional release for me.
I agree with Strat on all of this. It's got that Pearl Jam mystique to it without it sounding like they're trying to do that.

Fair enough. there's an electric reedy thinness to the riff that feels a little off to me, and there's a lagging way Eddie sings that he's done occasionally that isn't one of my favorite choices of his (parts of Otherside, maybe). It is somewhat unique and it's not a flashy song for sure.

DotC
SBWM (gross)

Never Destination
River Cross
I'm still annoyed that they only played three Gigaton tunes in Ottawa.

Dance, Who Ever Said, QE, and Retrograde were the songs they played the most, I think.
In 2023, the only Gigaton songs played more than once were:

DotC
Who Ever Said
7 O'Clock
Quick Escape
Retrograde

Then we're into the one appearance only songs (SBWM, Buckle Up, Take the Long Way).

It was a short tour, though, so that might have some impact - but I'm not expecting they'll dig too deeply into the record this year, unless they decide to throw a few extras into the NZ/Aus setlists.

I think another factor is whether Josh K will be touring with them moving forward. For better or worse, he seemed like a pretty integral part of them playing a few of those songs, Dance in particular.

Josh played guitar on tour for Jane's Addiction in 2023 but they've announced a bunch of dates for this year that conflict with Pearl Jam's, so he can't be doing both.

Seeing this thread bumped made me think I need to drop Gigaton Side C onto my record player.

Yeah, he was their lead/only guitarist in 2023, replacing Dave Navarro (who has been 'unavailable' for their last few years of touring):

i'm actually moving this to 2-star down from 4-star

i was listening to Gigaton today and after Quick Escape the dropoff to zero was so extreme

never really felt that let down before

really stood out

they should have put something slightly rocky to come down from that high

then you're searching for some pump and have to go all the way to track 8 and Take the Long Way has no fucking bass

and then after that there's nothing

such a weird album

almost like a hodge podge of demos

really does sound like something scrapped together in the work-remote era

and not good

only tracks that have any listenability are 1-4

and Superblood Wolfmoon lyrics are so cringe practically cancellable

Quick Escape deserves better than this album

it is a diamond in the PRAMG era

Songs like Retrograde and 7 O'Clock, while they have some decent component parts, are worst Pearl Jam, for me...The road I wish they never took that they stubbornly just seem to insist on ambling down.
Mid-tempo, aging, roots-rock adjacent MOR schlock.

Hope Watmon beat that complacency out of 'em
