I haven't listened since a few months before you started so it's very possible it's different now. If it is, that's great for him. I think he's a great guy - I've followed his career since Punk'd and think he's one of the few who feel genuine in Hollywood, I just couldn't listen to him talk over guests anymore. I really do love that you love what he's doing, I just wish I could as well. Maybe I'll give it another shot.

And I actually like his co-host and the way they end the show righting the wrongs of what was said. very refreshing.

I just listened to that. Mark Normand is great. Listen to him on Dr Drew's new podcast after hours. He's vulnerable, an open book and Hilarious.

Tried Shepard again cos he had Josh Gad on. I’m not even sorry but he’s so fuckin painful and self satisfied. And about another 400 mentions of his wife and frozen and how famous he is.
Won’t be listening again.

The Armchair ep with Will Arnett is a joy and a revelation. Not only does Will present totally differently than I imagined (in a good way) but the stuff they discuss actually changed my perspective. Just wonderful and exactly what I needed. So much to think about and work to implement in my life. I haven't even finished it yet and I want to listen to it again.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

tell me more...

While I admit to laughing at Arnett's characters, particularly Job on Arrested Development, he's always the same guy, which has become annoying. And I found his split from Amy Poehler (and rumors of infidelity) really off-putting.
Same. I imagined the dude was kind of an ass who had a sense of humor that I find unappealing (in that I assumed he had kind of a mean or degrading sense of humor). In this interview he comes across as giving, healthy, articulate, and kind. He seems generous.

There is an aspect of privilege that colors what he says but he talks a lot about how we want to confirm our own thoughts -- our brains want us to be right -- so we work hard to confirm the story we tell ourselves. If, for example, you say you don't deserve success or that you're not talented or whatever then your mind will work to confirm that narrative. Because your mind wants to be right. And Dax talks about how negative thinking (being down, the struggle) is actually a way to connect for a lot of people. And that hit me hard. I've learned over the years to call myself a writer and that's been helpful. But I also say that I'm a terrible writer a lot. And so maybe I am because I've told that story too many times. It's time to tell a different story.

None of what they say is brand new, probably, but sometimes you just need to hear things put a certain way for them to really click. And that's happening to me with this ep. I feel like I'm now more aware of bad habits than I've been in a long time and there's a real spark in me -- not only to want to adjust but that it's 100% possible to do so in a healthy way.

I'm sure others would find the conversation basic or annoying but it's really resonating with me. Most of the perspective Will offers is engaging and positive. He seems like a really open dude.

This was a good listen. It didn't get into all of his action within Somalia and by the end it felt a tad drawn out.

Big surprise, Robert Krulwich's final regular episode of Radiolab was great. I used to listen very religiously about 5-6 years ago, and it was a fitting sendoff.
