Trump is Trump, and looking for reason may be a lost cause, but maybe someone else can explain the logic to me here; is the operating assumption that we're going to all go back to work and the virus is just going to decide to just stop?

This coronavirus seems far more contagious than flu and if you are not using masks correctly then yeah, it won't stop the spread.
The flu is a human virus and we all have the ability to fight it off.
Covid is an animal virus and we don't have built in defence against it.

1. Masks aren’t effective because you have so many, many other exposure points. They partially address one potential route, which may help a tiny bit, but this benefit is more or less undone by the SUV effect....people feel safer and more protected, so they behave more recklessly. They go out more and/or allow more contact.

2. The intensity of messaging on masks has less to do with their ineffectiveness and more to do with behaviors people engage in if they think something ineffective is saving them.

3. N95s are great, and hospitals should be the ones getting them.

Medical masks have been a social feature in all Asian countries for decades.

People wear them when they themselves are sick and in order to prevent spreading it to you

And these masks are somewhat effective in that regard albeit briefly.
