By the way, Fireproof is a total ripoff of Racing Like a Pro. And the end of Don't Swalllow the Cap is straight from the end of Brainy.
i've heard this twice now, but i don't hear it... someone said it was just because of the "you're" part in the chorus? which seems like a gigantic stretch to me.

do you mean the guitar arpeggio/chord progression?

if so, they're definitely both in a minor key, but the guitar part is a lot different if you play them back to back on guitar.
I think the arrangement, lack of drums, tempo, etc. makes the songs sound very similar.

By the way, I LOVE this album. I have it higher than High Violet. A lot of the songs would sound right at home on other previous albums (Demons = Alligator; Don't Swallow the Cap = HV; Fireproof = Boxer; This is the Last Time = Sad Songs; Graceless = Boxer (reminds me a lot of Apartment Story); Slipped and I Need My Girl = HV (this is what Runaway should have sounded like)).

I Should Live in Salt and Humiliation are HUGE standouts for me.

Salt has become one of my absolute favorite songs of theirs too.

such a gorgeous chorus/hook.

i really hope that if they play Conan, Kimmel, or Leno this sumer, that they play that song on one of them.

I'm really not keen on some of their slower-moving songs (such as Racing Like a Pro, Runaway, Fireproof), but I could listen to Slipped over and over again.

Show tomorrow night at Lupo's in Providence, awwww yeah.

Looks like they've been playing about 6,7 or 8 new ones every night, thankfully not the whole album. I mean, I like the whole thing, but I want to hear the classics too.

Don't Swallow The Cap has been their standard opener for the few recent shows, and Matt promised people in Boston that they'd play Pink Rabbits at Lupo's :)

The only live video I've seen is a 20 minute Austin City Limits tv performance, but I've got a notion it'll be quite good. Looking forward to hearing them drums and guitar up in my face.

The only live video ever?

Haha, no. It's the only live video by The National I've seen. I think at one point there were some webcast rips of festival performances on TPB, but I missed out on those.

Kinda weird the show still hasn't sold out, I guess RI isn't that great of a market for medium-sized shows right now, or awareness of the band is low here. Oh well, that just means I'll be able to get closer on the floor.

Canceled my preorder today. I listened to the whole thing 3-4 times and its just not grabbing me at all with the exceptions of one, two maybe three songs.

LOL. That's how every album is. It doesn't grab you except for one, two maybe three songs... and then 4, 5 and maybe 6 and then before you know it you are telling everyone you know that they haven't recorded a bad song in forever.

The show was really good overall. There was a little bit of stop/start momentum to the setlist, a few of the new ones didn't make much of an impact, and Matt's new higher singing tone was a little weird on Mistaken For Strangers and Fake Empire, but they still brought the goods.

During Mr.November, Matt worked his way through to the middle of the room where I was standing. I was about 2 feet away from him when he got up on the bar at the end of the song, knocking hanging lanterns aside. That was pretty cool. The crowd had to help participate in passing the mic chord over everyone's heads, that was one long ass chord.

The crowd was pretty lame. During the quieter numbers, it was like everyone in the room was yell/talking at each other as loud as possible, almost like they were purposely trying to drown out the music. Most of I Need My Girl was rendered inaudible. Lots of fine white women in the crowd, though. It was kinda like the crowd at a Wilco show, in terms of demographics and flannel, except a narrower age group. And they didn't know when to shut the fuck up and respect the music.

I heard a few funny things on the way out. "What was that second to last song???". It was Mr.November, honey. Maybe try listening to Alligator sometime.

The best comment was "Wow, that was a really long show!". Dude. It was an hour and 40 minutes. What kind of shitty shows have you been going to? This dude would get destroyed by a 3+ hour Cure show.

i really enjoyed the merriweather show on thursday. i was very impressed with the slight re-arrangement of the new songs. i felt the new songs had more of a groove to them live. one of the twins (on the left, cant tell them apart) was wailing on the guitar, which to me, gives them a needed 'edge' visually and musically. i do wish they played a little longer, as they were on at 8:30 and done at 10:30, but very please overall.

June 10, 2013 Watch the band perform acoustic arrangements of four songs from its new album, Trouble Will Find Me. Though singer Matt Berninger had barely rested his voice from a show in the area the night before, the septet dutifully gives a lush, gorgeous performance.

God, between that video and the one of Graceless from a studio that's up on youtube, I wouldn't mind if we never got another backing vocal again. Brutal.

you expected more than 2 hours? i'm actually surprised... i figured they'd stick with the 90-100 minutes sets.

loved Merriweather, but they got better each night, with Richmond being the best out of the three shows i saw this weekend.

SUPER super bummed i couldn't make this... my bus to Philly left right around when it was happening, otherwise I would have been there :(
