I am empathetic to heartbreak but the pathetic, borderline-misogynistic sad loserness that is often born from it (which Black and I Got Shit reek of) makes my eyes roll out of my head
Thats the vertigo from Michael Bay movies, friend.

In all honesty, do most people really read I Got Shit as a song about heartbreak and lost love sadness?

That's so interesting to me. It never crossed my mind that it was a love song of any kind. I always thought it was more in the Corduroy, anti-fame, struggling with success and self-worth in the middle of all the grunge ethos nonsense stuff.

I really identified with the "I'll stay here in my bed, little I've seen there" line when I was a 17-year-old virgin
It's a great song, though
Please consider voting for me

I don't think I've ever been certain what that line actually is.

Going by the lyrics, I always thought it was about an ugly dork on the outside who thought no one could love him....not love lost, but love never had

Thematically, the song lands somewhere between Corduroy and In Hiding, to me. Given the era in which it was written, just makes total sense to me. But that's what's great about art. It all comes down to interpretation.

I always thought Black depicted the black of heartbreak.
Most other heartbreak songs are sappy, but black captures the freshly-dumped wtf-ness of it all

There's also some nice introspection going on, which I like a lot. I think the song does a good job of subverting the "pathetic, borderline-misogynistic sad loserness" that LV hears in it. It feels very raw and immediate and honest, which is certainly a plus but it's more layered than just "waaaaah! sad face"

So I'll just lie down and wait for the dream
Where I'm not ugly and you're lookin' at me
And I'll stay in bed...
Oh, little I've seen there
If just once I could be loved...
Oh, I'd stare back at me

I laughed after typing in "I got shit lyrics"

I thought "they're not that bad, Ed"
