Don't know how to even go about figuring this out via google, hoping someone in this thread can steer me in the right direction..

So my gf's mother recently had an aneurysm rupture.. she survived the surgery, but has been in the hospital/nursing rehab home since (almost 2 months)

The insurance stopped paying to keep her in the hospital, and now wants to stop paying for her in the home.. they say she isn't making enough progress (which is debatable)..

My question is, can they do this?? (I thought they couldn't drop someone due to a preexisting condition).. the family is in contact with medicaid (she isn't old enough but I'd think she qualifies as disabled), you'd figure she'd qualify but I'm not sure.. should the family be in contact with an attorney?? Do they have a shot??

So we're going to basically go back to status quo for a bit, kick the can, stave off cost to govt but let people die, still have a system where we pay 10 times and then what the rest of the world pays and no one is literally or financially healthy. Great Plan.

In general, I think it just gets bad for the bulk of us on employer paid plans especially the big self insured plans. Reduced coverage, higher premiums for less care.


The issue is not really the expansion of medicaid, it's failing to adequately fund all of this spending (they forced it down the road a few years) and that no one at all on any level is interested in reducing the absurd costs of American health care compared to the rest of the globe because the people making all that money are also writing all the rules.

If it passes, we just get more bad legislation. The Democrats forced through their plan with hopes they would win this election to fix the obvious problems, Republicans are trying to force through their plan with the same lofty hopes that they'll be the ones writing the fixes.

Meanwhile, the absurd cost of healthcare is the reason most people at the bottom weren't getting healthcare to begin with and the AHCA passing might lower the premiums a bit for young people but it certainly puts more stress on the people that actually need healthcare many of those are Republican voters so... the issue is going to remain until we wind up with some sort of collapse.

It would be insane if, after everything America has accomplished both good and bad, we end up collapsing because we can't agree on who should pay for life saving medical treatments.
