We’re going to see Peter Pan at the Fox Theater in Atlanta the night between the two PJ shows there. It’s more so I can see something in the venue more than anything but it should still be fun.

Joe, are these "etiquette guidelines" accurate? What do you agree / disagree with here?

Oh wow... okay, there's a lot to unpack there. Let's see....


1. I actually have no idea about this one. I would say it sounds unnecessary. The dresser/hair person makes a really good wage. They are professionals, craftspeople who work hard and earn their money. If you WANT to tip them, sure? I guess especially if you're Hugh Jackman, but I've never heard that it's expected. I'm very good friends with several dressers and they have never once talked about tips, let alone weekly tips. this feels.... excessive.

2. Absolutely, yes. There's zero excuse for not knowing the fellow artists/craftspeople you work with. Especially if you expect them to know you. It's easy to say hello.

3. I'm not sure I understand what this point is. So, I have no real thoughts/opinions.

4. This is tricky and a slippery slope. As you can see, whomever posted this thinks you have to include everyone backstage but then that excludes all front of house folks. This person doesn't mention House Staff, ushers, or box office. So, if you're cool drawing the line there, then I feel like you premise is flawed. I don't expect gifts from actors on opening night. Sometimes, actors give gifts and when they do it's always appreciated, but it's not expected. I can't imagine the stage hands want/expect gifts either. But if you're insistent that you have to do it for the backstage crew, then you should also do it for front of house.

5. Hugh has a remarkable reputation. Everyone loves working with him and wants to because he takes care of everyone. Years ago, he gave everyone in his box office Ipod Videos (this was back when those were a cool, new, coveted thing). But not everyone is Hugh, not even screen stars. I don't think this is expected. He sets a big example, and it's cool to follow it, I guess. But not necessary.

I think the big thing is, say hello. Introduce yourself and meet as many people as possible working on the show with you. Understand that it's a team that's all working toward the same goal and don't act like you're better or above anyone else. That's really it.

What if you are better than and above everyone else? Like Jorge.

Our oldest was in her school’s Opera Theatre performance of The Magic Flute #superflute last night. It was great. The characters were all switched out with Mario/Donkey Kong and Legend of Zelda characters and the set was based on the Mario/DK games. A lot of fun. The Weaseling played Queen of the Night. They were telling us after it was over that they haven’t performed The Magic Flute since 2013 because they couldn’t find anyone that could sing the part of the Queen and they didn’t want to pay someone to come in and do it as they had the previous two performance years. And she fucking NAILED it. So proud. They put a LOT of work in the costumes and set and it was worth it. They all did amazing and hopefully tomorrow night’s show comes off as good as last night’s.

It really was. I can’t say that I would’ve ever seen The Magic Flute otherwise, but it was great. Highly enjoyable.

A fun time. I guess it’s been quite some time since I’d seen anything Peter Pan related because there were a few story point I didn’t remember at all. The Fox Theatre was breathtaking. Granted, I’ve only been to a handful of these older theatres, but this one was done up totally different and way cooler. Seeing as how it was built by the Shriners back in the 20s, I guess it shouldn’t be surprising.

Tonight I'm going to see a one-man version of one of my all time favorite plays.

Chekov is a master and maybe my favorite playwright. 'Uncle Vanya' is my favorite of his works.

Adam Scott is doing a one-man version called 'Vanya.' It's been critically acclaimed in the UK and now it's here in NYC. I had tickets to see the performance last month but the performance was cancelled and tonight is my make-up/replacement date.

I can't wait. Adam Scott is one of the best actors of his generation. Vanya is one of the best plays of any generation.
