Re: Comes Then Goes
First few listens this plodded a bit and felt it would have suited Chris' voice more. Today it hit hard and the length didn't bother me. Ed sounds great and the minimal approach works for the album. The album needs this space at this point.

Re: Comes Then Goes
This song is just phenomenal. The lyrics, the guitar, Ed's voice. The most personal song we've heard him write in a long time. I hear a little Parting Ways and Seasons in this. Ed is clearly mourning CC's passing. This seems to confirm there was a falling out at some point, and maybe I'm reading too much into this, but he is attributing some of this to Vicki.

Re: Comes Then Goes
This one has not aged well for me over the past week or so. This is one that I wish Ed wouldn’t have been so restrained and safe. It feels too much like a third party narration than the heartfelt moment that it seems to be shooting for. This makes it feel very long.

I love the song but i wonder if the restraint you speak of will be there in live versions?

I’m actually looking forward to some live versions for that very reason!Thurman Murman wrote:I love the song but i wonder if the restraint you speak of will be there in live versions?

I thank Jeebus every time Ed shows restraint these daysThejambi wrote:This one has not aged well for me over the past week or so. This is one that I wish Ed wouldn’t have been so restrained and safe. This is an instant classic. Guess I didn't really buy into the hype till I first heard it, a real gut punch. From what I read I expected it to be a grower but I loved instantly. It's only an acoustic but the production is so lush (in a good way).

i think the reflective distance makes it more powerful- especially the moments when the pain breaks throughThejambi wrote:This one has not aged well for me over the past week or so. that approach is built into the lyrics, actually. not being into it is obviously a personal experience but his delivery is baked into the dna of the song.

Re: Comes Then Goes
If the subject matter is as suspected then I feel the restraint is warranted.
He wouldn’t go out and blaze considering his personal feelings or a desire to vent. It’s subtlety direct and a reflection of the dignity he’s shown since Chris passed away.
So classy.

Re: Comes Then Goes
Totally have come around on the production of this song. Love it exactly as it is. It needs nothing more.
The minimal guitars swirling around in the back ground are more than enough.
Ed's guitar sounds great. The playing is perfect.

The distortion at the end sounds like a computer is overheating.
