To enforce masks at a minimum.
verb_to_trust wrote:So some poor teenager can get breathed on by every single person that comes in?
If you want money, put an adult with a minimum of training up there, and pay them a premium for the risk.

You're not so stupid as to think that's what I'm suggesting.

You're probably suggesting those bougie personal igloo type things with their own personal space heater. If you think the government should pay for those so some absolute horror of a couple can dine out I would tend to disagree.

Here's an idea. If you are at risk, don't go out to eat. If you feel like you can assume the risk and patronize a business, go for it.
because going out to eat means being maskless indoors with other people maskless indoors, and that's how this spreads. nine months in and dullards like you are still trying negotiate with a virus.
It's spreading no matter what. If some 25 year old wants to go eat a burger I could honestly care less.

If the government or public health weirdos want to do something to help they should roll out the vaccine as fast as humanly possible.
nine months in and you think the government wants to help.
The government did dump a bunch of money into vaccine development, which is the only thing that will release us from purgatory, although a lot of the NEW STRAIN and SOCIAL DISTANCE AFTER VACCINATION talk has me a little skeptical anything will be good enough.
The bold is really the crux your stance from the get-go, correct? The banter is like the P90X of exercises in futility.

You're out of touch with reality if you think test and trace is the answer. It's been a fucking year of this shit spreading.
... in part because effective contact tracing has been mostly absent...
So what do you want to do? Build a time machine? Will our pooled $600 checks cover that project?
it's still spreading; people are still getting infected. i'm not sure you understand what contact tracing is.
Maybe you could do it Spike? You have a phone I presume and probably never leave your house.
i sent in an application about a month ago to see what may be available, actually.

If you call me I'm not answering

Our senators, David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, were both against direct payments to Americans during negotiations for the last round of covid relief.
Like a Christmas miracle both now support a $2000 direct payment to Americans.

verb_to_trust wrote:Maybe Reid should weigh in on the effectiveness of having mask gestapo posted up at the door? Doesn't seem like the kind of vibe you want to present your customers with as a first impression. Can't we assume that most people would be able to read a sign at the door saying "please wear a mask to enter"?
It's case by case. My bar does it, but we've always employed people to check IDs at the door anyway. Now we've added temp checks and the mask speech to their greeting routine. Our company spends some of our dwindling sales on disposable masks every month for people who "forgot" theirs, and there has been minimal pushback. Having already trained door staff helps achieve this goal without it feeling hostile. The people who really, really don't want to wear a mask will just go somewhere else, I've found. Those bars with less restrictions are doing better sales than we are, surprise surprise.

It would be comforting if the local governments had businesses back more and if stimulus could all be tied to that instead of just handing individuals money that they are free to spend at super spreader type bars. It would be amazing if we could afford to pay our door guys more right now for how hard they've worked at adjusting. We are lucky to not have had any major incidents at the door in this regard, but recently a bar on another side of town had a terrible event that perhaps goes a way towards helping your point that a mask gestapo leads to trouble.

Like I said, case by case.

I think some psycho smashing a glass on a bar employees head really hammers home to me how "mandates" to stop the spread are not going to work. The people that believe "because I said so" is going to get compliance must be the same people who think abstinence only sex education keeps teens from having sex.

I definitely empathize with business owners because it's a really shitty situation to be in.

It has been my experience that how it is presented and enforced goes a long way to influence how an anti-masker responds. Then again, some people are just aggressive dicks.

At the beginning of the pandemic, a guest went to high five me as he was leaving and I offered the elbow bump instead. He got angry and called me a pussy. Whatever.

Incidents like that will always happen. Sometimes violently, like at Grand Prize. I've seen similar things over the years over things as simple as denying a fake ID or a bartender cutting a drunk off for the night. Doesn't negate the right of a business to continue to enforce a number of mandates as they see fit.

You're right, it just sucks all around.

yeah let’s repeal mandates designed to protect people from their stupid selves because a drunk guy overreacted in a bar.
