Wait, so what did you do? Just speed it up a tiny bit?

hey so I was listening to "A Forest" by the Cure the other day and aspects of it reminded me of this, which has never occurred to me before until now

and changed the pitch / key in the process, so now it matches the actual song

i did this also, i just used the bootleg audio and sped the video up to match the bootleg track, which was super easy because the video and the track from the bootleg are actually meant to be the same exact time, ed chat at the end and all, which is why there's a bunch of black silent video at the end. they should hire one of us to do this stuff for them.

Brilliant! Thank you for this.

I think I'm ready to say WES > SOF.

Not even a contest for these ears, WES is great.

I like them both but team SoF here. I’ve never craved WES or most of Gigaton the way I crave SoF and most of DM.

SoF is the song WES wanted to be.

I love em both, 5 stars. SoF is a tighter experience and maybe inches out WES, but the looseness of WES is part of its point

they are both muscular, straight ahead rockers grappling with legacy. SoF has an interiority WES doesnt, which makes sense since SoF is a more personal song - about your individual history, obligations, failures. WES is more social/generational critique in a way that is bigfer than the individual even though the individual is a part of it. And its harder to wrap your mind around that in a focused way

Neither are examples of what I consider Pearl Jam's strengths. SoF has more compelling lyrics. Everything else about WES is better, I think.

Wes is a better song I think, it’s more muscular and heavy but Sof is way more direct and have an urgency that PJ does it very well

I like the lyrics more than I like the song as a whole.

Jesus Christ. There are people thinking WeS is better than SoF?

Wes would be an absolute dud without the second half of the song. And if that final 2 mins or so was its own tune, would still be run of the mill DM material.

Everything on DM is head and shoulders above everything on Gig, with the exception of dance. So to me, SoF run circles around WeS.

This is the best opener since Can’t Keep?

They’re both really good openers at this point in the band’s career. SoF has less Ed cringe but damn, I’m grateful for both songs.

The transition from verse to chorus could be better.

I disagree, the vocal melody of "who ever said it's all been said" lifts it into elite territory. I would have still been significant without the second half. The second half just makes it that much stronger.

I think the vocal melodies before the bridge/breakdown are mind numbingly plain and uninspired, personally.

And there is ZERO space for the lyrics to breathe. Ed crams in as much as he can on this song.

SoF is so, so much better in that regard.

Did I say something wrong?
Did I walk out of step?
To do you do I still belong?
Do I have to be scared?

Im not saying I know
it's all feeling unclear
we all love control, I surrender to you dear

Vs

Drowning in their dissertations
Random speakers in my mind
Yeah, they never stop their fortifications
And blocking my precious time
You used to let it go and let it float away
You don't get to speak with twice as much to say
It's all delivery
Oh, said the messenger who is now dead
Was all on the periphery
I didn't see him but I heard what he said
Oh, sideways talk poisoning our thoughts
Everyone walks and it's no one's fault
