there's this really great weathered crackle in Eddie's voice on the album version, like he's sick from his endless vigil in the rain, that I love, and I guess they haven't been able to reproduce it live.
It's not an atmospheric song in the traditional sense (slower, spacy, open) but I actually think Force of Nature is one of the most atmospheric songs in their entire catalog. Insignificance as well. They are very similar in that regard (I like FoN more but Insignificance is probably the better song). The music just does a near perfect job of visually setting the stage for the story, the bombs dropping down mixed with the foreboding calm in between that you get with insignificance, and the steadfast refusal to bow to the lashing wind and rain in Force of Nature

Remember Ok Soda?
1-800-Ok Soda
We used to call that all the time. Bunch of silly ridiculous games and things. We would call that when we knew girls were calling the house. We didnt want the phone ring so we would stay on the line with Ok Soda for hours so when the gals called we could just bypass the ring with call waiting.
Genius.
I miss being a kid.

Me too. I always think about how pleased he'd be that I love it so much now. I wasn't too crazy about it when he was alive and he tried so hard to sway me. I clearly remember a really nice PM conversation with him about how he could picture himself with kids rocking them to sleep to Around the Bend.

I'll probably be disappearing for a few more weeks, though. So you can still be happy, but you won't really enjoy it knowing it could end at any moment
