I remember seeing him filming that night & being sure it'd turn in to a DVD...

The Thermals were the opener, and Eddie made a surprise appearance in between to play "Here's to the State.." & "Tonight you Belong to Me" with Janet.

Still one of the best shows I've been to.

Carrie said in a recent interview, Wild Flag and Exuse 17 are dead/finished/will never happen again.

I love Sleater Kinney. Can anybody direct me to some albums/bands that sound kinda like SK? Female singer, sorta punk rock. I know SK was part of the riot grrrl movement, but I don't know shit about the movement itself.

There's really nothing else that sounds like SK, unless we're talking their debut album, which is pretty heavily rooted in Riot Grrrl. That album is a bit more aggressive and punky than the rest of their output, so groups like Bikini Kill and Team Dresch aren't that far off. You might also wanna try X-Ray Spex, White Lung (much heavier than SK, though), Au Pairs, The Julie Ruin, Screaming Females, Le Butcherettes, Savages. Obviously Wild Flag if you haven't heard them yet. Just throwin' some suggestions out there.

Thanks, care to suggest any specific albums from these groups?

So they put this image up on FB today.
Image

This is the view from the window of the old Market Hotel, a DIY venue in Bushwick that has been defunct now for close to five years. There were talks of them re opening some point, but it never seemed to go anywhere. But with this shot, and what I've been hearing, they are planning on a show there in a few months. Which is just pretty fucking ridiculous.

As great as this sounds and I'm sure will be, the whole "lets bring it back home and do something for the punx, kind of feels trite and dumb. But, let's see what happens. I'm sure tickets won't be easy to come by as the venue is fucking intimate.

To get an idea of the space, heres a vid of Pissed Jeans playing there back in 09 or so. I was there and the show was fucking bedlam.

I really really hope Janet and Sam are working on some new Quasi during SK's summer break from touring while Carrie films more Portlandia. Course, Janet is the location scout for Portlandia, so she might be too busy for Sam :( damn it, I want some new Quasi
