Aaron Paul: Breaking Bad Finale Will Make You ‘Shit Your Pants’

For diehard fans of Breaking Bad, AMC’s decision to split the fifth and final season into two mini-seasons, separated by nearly a year was made much more painful with the series’ most shocking cliffhanger in the midseason finale.

We’ve previously been told by Bryan Cranston that series creator/writer Vince Gilligan had a plan in place that would truly serve as the end of the story, tying up many loose ends, and according to Aaron Paul in a recent chat we had with him, it’s going to be worth the wait for viewers.

How hard is it for star Aaron Paul, who plays Jesse Pinkman in the show, to keep secrets about the ending, knowing how popular it is among family, friends and the internet community he spends time with on Twitter?

“[Laughs] No, it’s great. I don’t have a problem not telling. Everyone asks me but deep down they don’t want to know. And I know that so it’s not really that big of a deal.

Before I read the final eight episodes, the final eight hours of the show, I was thinking to myself ‘this is so tragic, I can’t believe this show is ending.’ I didn’t want it to end but after knowing how the final eight hours play out, I couldn’t be happier with the way it ended and hopefully you all agree. I feel pretty confident that you will.”

Joking about how heavy it can be to read the final set of scripts for Breaking Bad, Aaron continued, explaining that it was hard to resist delving into the stories as soon as possible when they were sent to him.

“Actually yeah, a little bit. That’s what I did with part one, the first eight [episodes of season 5]. I mean, I took my time with all of them but in all honestly I couldn’t wait. So, if I got an email on my phone on the final eight I thought to myself ‘I’m going to wait to get home and actually have the paper scripts and sit on the couch, drink some wine and take my time with it’ but in all reality, probably six of the eight episodes I read from my phone on a plane or something because I couldn’t… I could not wait.

I’m a huge fan of the show as well. You guys are gonna shit your pants.”

From his genuine excitement in his voice and facial expressions, it was evident that it’s bittersweet for Aaron that Breaking Bad is coming to a (potentially polarizing) end, but that he couldn’t be more happier or proud of how it does so.

If that praise of the final stretch of Breaking Bad doesn’t boost anticipation for the long-awaited conclusion, I don’t know what would.

What is he going to say, the new episodes are mediocre?

Right? And no offense to Aaron Paul, but he seems much more easily excitable than I am (this based on interviews and his twitter account). He thinks everything is awesome.

well, it took a little over a month, but we watched every episode. here is this johnny come lately's thoughts:

my favorite episode was the one where they were cooking in the rv and jesse left the keys in the ignition. when they made the discovery and jesse called mr. white a bitch, i almost died. the whole episode, though, was just so great. in an odd way, it reminded me of the famous pine barrens episode in the sopranos.

chud was right about the latter half of season 3 and all of season 4 being the best. that was just some fine ass tv, and gus is the best tv villain in recent memory.

fans refer to walt as a bad ass. when walt ran over the two guys jesse was going to kill (get killed by) is the only time i think that description fits. he seems pathetic to me otherwise.

i think walt became a bad guy when he allowed the girl to choke on her vomit because she was jesse's yoko. that was sort of like anakin killing all the sand people. still, i was able to push that aside and kind of pull for him all the way through the end of season 4.

i've hated the show since that kid in the desert was murdered. now, like skylar, i'm waiting for him to die, but that would be too good for this pos. i hate to see any innocent characters die for his punishment, but i think it'd be fitting if flynn od'd on walt's product (can you od on meth?). i also hope jesse dies. i like him a lot and watching walt manipulate him has been awful. there is no way he can find peace in a long life.

what the fuck is my man bill burr doing in this show as a straight man?

finally, i read saul goodman might get his own show. has dark humor potential, but i'd rather it didn't happen.

so when does this show start up again? the wait is gonna be killer

So much this. Giancarlo Esposito knocked it so far out of the park with Gus, it still surprises me how much I loved every second that character was on the screen. He was robbed at Emmy time.

For those onboard since the beginning, Breaking Bad's final batch of episodes seems destined to produce nothing less than a frenzy, a testament, in part, to how bracingly unpredictable Vince Gilligan-s creation has been. And while the first of these remaining hours does little to suggest whether the wrap-up will ultimately prove worthy of the journey, it's breathtaking stuff, providing tour-de-force moments for the key characters.

Breaking Bad is better than meth. Meth has diminishing returns. It's never has good as the first time, people say. Breaking Bad gets better the more you do it. It rewards you for being obsessive. Go back and watch a few episodes in Season 2 or 3, and you'll have a richer experience in Season 5.

There's a certain simplicity to chemistry, which isn't to say it's easy to master. Conditions matter: Jesse Pinkman slouched his way through Walter White's classroom, but came alive to the possibility of chemicals when they were reunited in an old RV. One of the tragedies of Jesse and Walt's relationship is that Walt, through cooking meth, gave Jesse the education he was unable to impart to him in the classroom. And even once you’ve passed your knowledge along, that doesn't guarantee the stability of your compounds and processes.
