It was I. I really didn't put a lot of thought into the mix except that I wanted to include some songs that I was more recently enjoying. I wasn't overly concerned about flow or anything, my main aim was to provide some songs that would hopefully appeal to some RMers and perhaps get them to explore further. I was in that way purposely putting together a bit of a "mixed bag".

I was also pretty drunk when I finalised the mix. Believe me, tracks 5 through 8 were fucking rocking after half a bottle of Gentleman Jack. But I digress...

Track 1 - Chet Faker - Release Your Problems (current year release from Aussie singer songwriter - good album, big on our national youth broadcaster JJJ)
Track 2 - Grinderman - Honey Bee Let's Fly to Mars (had to have some 'Aroma of Man' representation on this thing...picked this as it is awesome and it was featured on the 'True Detective' soundtrack)
Track 3 - Thee Oh Sees - Encrypted Bounce (2014 recent release, love this song)
Track 4 - The War on Drugs - Red Eyes (likely 'RM Album of 2014' here)
Track 5 - Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks - Lariat (2013 release, I like it, its not too serious, and I did indeed grow up in the 80's listenning to music from the best decade ever)
Track 6 - The Bottle Rockets - Radar Gun (after enough JD this song just plain rocks. From a 2014 re-release of a 1994 album)
Track 7 - The Burning Hell - Amateur Rappers (2014 release, interesting album. Contains 2 of my favourite recent lyrical deliveries in the lines "If I was a cult leader my cult would be wicked" as well as his doggy chewing "an unknown mystery bone" during the zombie apocalypse. A bit of fun.)
Track 8 - Parquet Courts - Master of My Craft (2013 release, was used in a few movies, like I said, bourbon...)
Track 9 - JD Wilikes and the Dirt Daubers - No Rest for the Wicked (start of the female singer section, recent discovery, 2014 release, I just liked the song)
Track 10 - Sharon Van Etten - Afraid of Nothing (from her new release, first track I believe. This is a great album)
Track 11 - Owl Eyes - Nightswim (I heard her perform this live on our premier music quiz show, Rockwiz, a few months ago. Loved it and so it got a guernsey here)
Track 12 - The Delines - I Won't Slip Up (Beautiful song from what is shaping up to be my personal album of 2014 - if this mix gets you to check out one album then make it this one - really great stuff here)
Track 13 - Lucinda Williams - Fruits Of My Labor (I've been on a big Lucinda Williams kick lately and was tempted to put the song they used on 'True Detective' here, but that would have been overkill. Everything she does is awesome.)
Track 14 - Isaac Hayes - Do Your Thing (Bringing the funk, how can that be a bad thing?? A song for RM in that this is a place for you and me and everyone else, whatever floats your boat. Do your thing, yannow? Haters gonna hate and Heathen's gonna heath and like my son says, it's all G)

Glad some people enjoyed some of it. Thanks to all the mix-makers, go on and do your thing.

I definitely need to check out Chet Faker and The Delines. I've been meaning to listen to the new Sharon Van Etten; This will probably make me act a little more urgently in doing so. And I've been digging on some Owl Eyes since my first run through of the mix.

Thanks, Varis!

like, what is the heathen account all about, yanno? it's certainly pretty mouthy in other bands, but doesn't seem to show much gusto elsewhere

i want you to lay yourself bare and let us sit in judgment of you.

Go to the Metal thread. He's way into bands and albums with hilarious names.

also, i'm reminded of something that King (the template for super nintendo chalmers, birds in hell, heathen, and their ilk) once posted: 'it's the lack of self-awareness that kills metal'
