Goodell has a chance to make up for this by dropping the hammer on Greg? Hardy, whose case is even worse than Rice's. If he doesn't, then the scorn needs to go orders of magnitude higher.
It will be intersting to see what happens on that I think they postponed the trial until after the 1st of the year.
The NFL doesn't need to wait for a trial to take action. See Ben Roethlisberger. They can do their own investigation to determine if/when he deserves a suspension. I wish they had done that with Perrish Cox. :gomez:

Certainly curious how they decide to apply punishments and then hide behind technicalities

When my wife is aware of the situation and has an opinion regarding the NFL, you know something is up.

That's pretty weak sauce, coming from the face of American professional sports. (If that is where you got your info)

I buy the "clean record" rational overall. 2 games is unreasonably low though.

Too little too late. This is expected and predictable, why does it take lots of public pressure to make the right decision?

Because the powerful tend to skate until public pressure gets too much?

The one pitfall I see about this stricter punishment rules regards how "domestic violence" gets interpreted, as it's a term that's notorious for being manipulated. I could foresee them trying to wiggle around that definition to avoid dropping the hammer on certain offenders.

That's the whole thing, this is a complete overreaction to an unbelievably stupid tone deaf decision to go way too light on Ray Rice. If he docs half the season to begin with the story is dead, now it's going to last forever and possibly make it worse.

0 tolerance policies are stupid and they are cop outs. It's an attempt to duck criticism for an executive.

They've got an army of PR staff and the executive still doesn't understand the criticism.

That they had a policy written down for weed but not domestic violence is probably worse especially a year after a player was involved with murder/suicide.

He may as well let the pro bowl winner decide the location of the Super Bowl.

Too little too late? Ray Rice got off easy but at least he shed light on this matter. Would you rather them shrug and say "oh well, we missed that boat".

This isn't a zero tolerance policy.

Correct, it's a mandatory minimum but the same logic applies to both. In general I favor discretion even if as in the Rice case it's used very poorly.

I think Roger Goodell did a pretty good job addressing it in his letter to the league.

Agreed. I was very critical of how he handled it. He was worried about the players association and backlash from them. I get it. But I'm glad he admitted his wrong and corrected it. Shows humility.

It wouldn't surprise me if a team with meh RB situations picked up BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Cleveland maybe?
