i actually listened to vitalogy last week, and was struck by how phenomenal it still sounded

Lightning Bolt is similar to Yield except the songs suck in comparison.

I dont think they've ever shit on it. They just glance over it. Mike and Ed were too fucked up during the recording to respect it. yet. They need some therapy still.

I'm pretty sure I've heard all of them say somewhat negative things about it; maybe not that it's bad, but that it's 'okay' or not really a highlight. I have no doubt that the fact that it seems like it was tough to record has an impact on them.
