They both have this 50s (is doowap the word?) feel to them.
I like it.
12 bar blues?
Nope, not blues at all; Come Back is like a 50s rock n roll doo-wop slow dance song. Although I think the studio version of SoS is just a mess that doesn't know what it is. I don't know how hammered dulcimer or lasers is trying to recapture 50's doo-wop stuff. But I guess there's a hint of it in the rhythm.
i didnt know doo-wop had slow dance songs

Yeah, I love a load of this style of music. I don't know much about it so there are probably loads of examples of slow dance songs from the era. You know, the films, with the prom scene at the end and the kiss. OH, actually, in Grease? 'Beauty School Dropout' is another one in that style.

Apparently there's not enough guitars. It's not the big anthem they were trying for, something like that.

It sounds like it was written for the soundtrack to a Disney movie?

Oh yeah, and apparently it's proof of Ed's Christian radio credentials.

It would certainly be her best song.

Can you think of a better Celine Dion song than ATW?

I'm leaning more late-era adult contemporary Phil Collins.

I quite like Amongst The Waves but Mike's solo is annoying and doesn't fit the song. Sounds like he thinks they're playing some heavy hard rock song.

Maybe if that solo was something more creative, more people would realise it isn't meant to be one.
