Years ago a buddy from school gave me his old CB 5-piece drum kit. It just collects dust, but recently I finally found a few hours to wire in LEDs. I screwed something up so because the remote no longer works, and now it only lights up blue. There wasn't enough left in the line to wire the snare.

Also, buying two guitars in a few month span isn't something I normally do (i try to limit myself to one big gear purchase per year) but I had this other Ltd EC-400AT sitting at home that wasn't getting much use since I bought the Les Paul in June so i'm selling the EC-400 to a buddy and replacing it with this one. Essentially the same guitar, but the other one had Duncan pickups, black gloss finish and a 24.75" scale. Amazing guitar and I hate to let it go but i'm running out of space in my music room.

On a totally different topic....who's up for a fun little gear challenge? A couple nights ago my buddy and I were watching a video on youtube where the hosts had to assemble a gig worthy setup for under £500 (+/- $760 USD at today's exchange rate).



If you don't feel like watching the video, the rules were

-budget of £500
-has to be loud enough to play with a drummer
-just the cost of guitar and amp, no need to account for accessories like instrument cables/etc
-must be NEW equipment, nothing used

Because we were bored (and drinking) we decided to attempt the same thing ourselves and we did two different challenges. First we more or less copied the challenge from the video with new equipment using musiciansfriend.com as a price guide, since i think they are probably the biggest online retailer. But after that we did a used gear challenge with classified listings we found in our local craigslist. Both were pretty fun exercises and it's kind of interesting to see what you come up with a strict budget in a pinch. What I learned is that it's way easier to build a decent rig if you're a rock/indie/alt kind of player....it's much harder to build a serviceable metal rig on a budget like that. It can be done and i'll post up my results if anybody feels like giving it a go.

Given some store credit for Christmas. Thinking of buying a Fender tube amp, or possibly a low-end Taylor acoustic/electric. Other options would be a PDP drum set or cymbals, a Fender FSR Jazz or Jaguar bass, or other accessories like mics or pedals. Any thoughts or opinions, gents?

This eBay auction is absolutely killing me, a vintage Roland RS-09 analog synth for $295 in the state where I live. Even if I ever find another that cheap and in that good condition, the postage from anywhere else in the world will be prohibitive.

Looks like my pedal board finally shit the bed. IT was a good 14 year run. Used the DC power brick but it appears as though its shot. Maybe i could replace that but at this point I kind of just want to try something new. Yes, I could build my own, but i dont want to. What do you guys suggest?

The answer really depends on your usage, how much you want to spend, whether you want a case, etc. I'd avoid getting anything with a built in power supply though. I've been using a full size Gator board for 7 or 8 years (this model, minus the power supply). It's a solid chunk of wood so it will stand up to some serious abuse, but the velcro is coming off in a few places, probably needs to be replaced and reglued. The deciding factor for me was that it was solid and came with a good carrying case. I've been hauling it to practice with me weekly for that entire time and the case and shoulder strap have held up well. The board itself also has a heavy duty handle that protrudes through the case that i'll use to carry it sometimes as well. Fully loaded it is a heavy piece of gear though, and that's my only real gripe.

If I were looking to replace the Gator board i'd consider something a little lighter, maybe a pedaltrain with a soft case. Perhaps even just build one that fits in the old carrying case.

The standard seems to be the pedal train and a voodo lab pedal power 2+. Shits expensive though. My buddy has that setup and it really is wonderful. Right now my shitty pedal board is a mess of dog hair, velcro and pedals crammed together with cords everywhere

I ordered an Orange OR15 today. my local store had a sale and i got it new for $499 so i'm pretty pumped but hey didn't have any on-site so I have to wait to get one shipped from another location though. Probably won't see it until next week at least. I'm interested in A/B-ing it against my Dark Terror and see how they differ.

What kind of pedalboards you guys utilizing these days?

Thinking about getting a new one. Sure, the pedaltrain is a standard and solid o-to but seeing what other kind of interesting options are out there.

Me and a buddy are planning to build a couple of pedal boards for ourselves in the next few weeks. I've got that portable one that I mentioned, but I want something for home use. I've got a bunch of pedals that don't get used either because they take up too much real estate or they aren't useful enough to justify carrying everywhere. Space in my music room is limited so i'm building something with the smallest footprint possible. Going to be about 30" long and narrow enough to only handle a single row of pedals...probably about 8-9" wide.



Picked up my OR15 on Friday and it's a great little rig. Didn't get the chance to crank it but it sounds a lot nicer at bedroom volume than the Dark Terror does. It's voiced a little more vintagey than the Terror series, but still has loads of gain. Looking forward to seeing how it sounds wide open on the 15W setting.

just picked this one up a about 6 months ago and I love it. Needed a heavy duty flight case for travel and got it. Its not light but the actual pedal board pulls right out so you can store the actual case somewhere else if you aren't going anywhere.
my only major gripe is the dog house is tiny so don't plan on putting anything in there like your power supply. It cleans up cables nicely though

I really like the idea of having a compartment under the board where i can hide/thread many o the cables and strap in my power supply. I also enjoy the vintage orange looking thin of this badaxx or whatever.

Says it can fit 8 pedals which I suppose is more than enough.

yeah, thats a nice looking board for sure. appears there is no cover though?
