Loving that Protomartyr album, SNC. I don't know how you keep up with all this stuff.

I've always appreciated people singing without trying to hide their accents. It's a nice album, I gave it a solid 7 (that's out of 10, y'all).

The only 3 albums I really got invested in all year (besides a very rewarding deep dive into Neil Young's discography) were:

Kamasi Washington - The Epic (album of the year!)
Tame Impala - Currents
Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell

Kamasi Washington's album is wonderful. It's near the top of my list too. Check out Vijay Iyer's "Break Stuff" and Brad Mehldau's "10 Years Solo Live" if you're interested in some more good contemporary jazz from this year.

Listening to Kamasi Washington's album at work today - stellar stuff. Cheers.

It's great to know there are other Kamasi fans (and jazz fans in general) on here. Word!

LoathedVermin72 wrote:Varis, what are your top 5 all-girl grunge revival albums of 2015?
01 Chastity Belt - Time to Go Home
02 Bully - Feels Like (a really good KD approved album)
03 Courtney Barnett - Sometimes I Sit (perhaps more 'slacker rock', but you get the idea)
04 Dilly Dally - Sore
05 Skating Polly (this is just here to make up the numbers - I haven't actually listened to these chicks bar a few singles)
Not all of these are "all-girl." Bully is only 1 girl.

I cannot stop listening to Beach Slang's debut - The Things We Do to Find People Who Feel Like Us. Probably my album of the year for 2015.

Yep. The first 3 songs are just an absolutely perfect 123 punch--hook, line, sinker. And then Percentage Points > Competition > Private Number might be even better.

Parts of the record reminds me a lot of early era REM, with horns! And some female vocals!

So, it's pretty much perfect.

I don't think Julia Holter's "Have You In My Wilderness" has been mentioned yet, but it's pretty goddamn great.

Okay, so I'm embarrassed not to have included these two records in the list. They fucking fantastic. And are both on the same label, Bedroom Suck out of Ashgrove, AUS.

Totally Mild. I haven't listened to anything else all weekend. I planned on getting through of a stack of records this weekend, with the storm and all, but I just kept on flipping it starting it all over again. Give it a shot.

Blank Realm. I thought I could get by on just one of their records, Go Easy from 2012. But I gave their latest a chance last week it's even better than Go Easy which I adored.

I should just start a fucking Aussie bands thread.
