Very true, yes. I hadn't really thought of that explicitly. But, yeah.

Yup. And a collective IQ of what, maybe, 32? Being generous, maybe give them a 40?

Really makes you wonder how the jury room went down.

The most surprising part to me of the whole documentary is that both sides agreed not to show his entire first videotaped interview. They played like the first 4 hours, but didn't play the final 1.5 hours (roughly) which I think is where this exchange occurred. (It may have actually been a conversation with his mom, but either way, it was very telling)

The questioning was so sad and painful to watch. They manipulated him the entire way until he said what they wanted, then they used that to send both of them to jail.

"And you did something to her head right?"
"No."
"Stop lying to us. You did something to her head, didn't you?"
"Um... yeah."
"What did you do to her head?"
"I don't know..."
"Come on, what did you do to her head?"
"We... punched it?"
"You did? Ok. What else did you do to her head?"
"We... I don't know."
"Come on, just tell us what you did to her head. We need you to be honest."
"We... cut her hair?"
"No, what did you do."
"I don't know."
"Oh come on, just tell us. You did something to her head with a gun."
"We... shot her?"
"You did? Wow, thanks for being so honest with us."
"Will I be back to school in time for sixth period? I have a project due."

Not even. The investigator was the first one to bring up the shooting. "Alright... who shot her?"

Brendan's case is so sad.

Yeah, I feel like people should be talking about Brendan at least as much as Steven. I don't think Steven did it, but there's a chance he did. There's no fucking way Brendan had anything to do with it.

just finished this and man, what a story...i know the doc was a bit biased toward steven's side, and while i'm not completely convinced he wasn't involved to some degree, it's clear the local law enforcement had a part in the incriminating evidence

what little heart i have broke every time i saw brendan dassey on screen...and who else thinks bobby dassey seemed shady?

Lenny why is your heart so little?

There is a song called Love Boat Captain by the Pearl Jams. You should give it a listen.

The Dassey brother and step-dad seem like the most likely culprits to me. I could see them going along with the cops wanting to pin it on Avery and when their dim-witted brother got in the mix, I could see them getting behind that, too.

What a generally sad group of people.
