Finally watched this and I found it pretty awful - what a demonstration of the kind of self-satisfied, pious hectoring that many people find so off-putting about modern liberalism.
Pence deserves to go see a show with his family like anybody else, even the most public of figures deserves a private life.
Wow. This on top of your hose the protester comment....
Hey, that was (somewhat) tongue-in-cheek.

And he did see a show.
Then he was addressed, briefly, and respectfully, in a non-aggressive manner.
I would argue that there isn't anything inherently partisan in what the actor said, either.

It wasn't partisan, though arguably progressive in its overall character, but the focus on Pence was incredibly rude in the circumstances. I expect it played well in the house, this is pretty low-hanging fruit, but I think the whole exercise reflects well on Pence and poorly on everybody else involved.

I wonder if some other rude things happened during this election, and how this would compare to those things.

Don't get me wrong, Trump has said some unfathomably rude and downright weird things - like his attacks on the parents of that Muslim-American soldier and his suggestion that John McCain was some kind of loser for being a POW.
We live in vulgar times.

It's been said before but it's true. We're in for a long four years

does he realize it's a comedy show? they're under no obligation to be "fair and balanced"
what a weirdo.

SNL & The Hamilton cast are just a bunch of Bolsheviks.

Modern liberalism is just a natural response to the redundant and out of date conservatives and conservative 'values' forever being forced on us all though, spenno.
Trump in no way was elected by people looking to preserve conservative values, he and Pence were elected by people who at the store or in church say they're conservative but three beers in them? They're burning faggots and wanting to burn that nigger Obama.
You might not like it but I think it's totally fair that they took that moment to talk to Pence. He supports gay conversion therapy (and may have gone through it apparently. Fake news ahoy). And is generally an abhorrent in his views. How many other chances are people going to get to let their views be known to him directly? Probably never.
It's really Trumps reaction to it is the story. He's that easily rattled? We're all in trouble.

They took their cue to address him and his homophobia from panti a couple of years ago using theatre to address being sued for calling a homophobe a homophobe. Their speech wasn't as powerful but is as viral and far reaching.

I don't really understand what makes that speech 'modern liberalism.' Or, in that context, what modern liberalism could even mean. If a cast member of a popular show can't take a moment at its conclusion to respectfully address a Vice President-to be isn't an 'acceptable' form of criticism, I'm not really sure what would be.

Digster watch panti's speech. She makes the point about the ridiculousness of suddenly gay people aren't the victims of homophobia. Homophobes are. You can't name or apply the reality to that faction without that faction being outraged that you have.
And the Hamilton ting didn't even do that in an aggressive way. Quite the opposite.

Uh, this is gonna sound weird, but I'm on Team Dime. Pence had made a career out of making other people's personal lives political--he's on record as saying that he thinks gay people could bring about the downfall of American society. If he's in a public space, I don't think I'd fault anyone for standing up and challenging him on those ideas.

Really glad this happened, and I hope this sort of non-violent protest continues and grows and happens all the time for the next four years.

Pence has a far different tone about it than Trump. Truly fascinating.
"My daughter and I and her cousins really enjoyed the show. 'Hamilton' is just an incredible production, incredibly talented people. It was a real joy to be there," Pence said.
"When we arrived we heard a few boos, and we heard some cheers," he said, "I nudged my kids and reminded them that is what freedom sounds like."
All the while donald is still tweeting about it....

Man, this is so much better than I could have said it.
Also, if a politician who vocally supported making firearms illegal went to a Nascar event and got a speech at the end, nobody would be saying "hey he just came to see a race! How tactless of them!" They'd be saying "what did that idiot expect?"

If someone were to gently admonish Obama (for the sake of argument) in a similar way to make a political point, I really think people would go fucking bananas.
Pence wasn't there in an official capacity and had family members with him, I think the focus on him was rude in the circumstances and the speech itself dopey and pious.

I just wish I hadn't fucked up the tense, but that's what I get for trying to post in the parking lot of Dollar Tree with a crying baby in the backseat. Should definitely have been "has," as in he's still doing it.
