Don't be sorry. LV was being a jerk. Rats is a good song.
It really is. I was so happy when they brought it back.

He misunderstood one of my posts about his beloved Kanye and now he's taking it out on everyone. That's on me, so let me offer my apologies, friend. I'm sorry.
Rats is a really fun song. I love it.

I combined my favorite Backspacer and Lightning Bolt songs to make the following playlist/new album. I know there was a thread about this somewhere but I'm too lazy to look it up. I really like the back half of the album about a relationship that goes bad and then reunites over a terminal illness.
Getaway
Mind Your Manners
Lightning Bolt
Infallible
Pendulum
The Fixer
Johnny Guitar
-
Just Breathe
Sleeping By Myself
Speed of Sound
Force of Nature
Sirens
The End

I'm in a weird mood right now. I feel like listening to Yield. This never happens to me.

But, it was right around this time that I started disliking a lot of Ed's deliveries, not including his vocal ticks. This method is evident throughout Backspacer and LB, and I don't think it's working well for him, or the band overall. It's not that on previous albums his vocal melody was in direct conflict with the instruments. He was able to create his own instrument that fit within the construct of the song. Sometimes soothingly, sometimes tensely. But he doesn't seem to do this very much anymore, and I think the songs suffer from it.
That is such an excellent observation. (Nonetheless I rather wish I hadn't read it because it may spoil quite a few songs for me.) I never thought about it that way, or heard that analogy Ed made, but you're right, it characterizes very well a lot of the more recent vocals. And I think you're also right that it's not working particularly in their favor.
At first I thought it was just the last 2 albums but I listened a bit and even S/T sounds this way to me now. This "riding the wave" thing.

No Code turned...20? I still remember going to the record store to get it. It was the ¨awful new one¨ from PJ.

My friend didn't want to buy it even though he was the Pearl Jam fan that turned me on to Pearl Jam. He didn't like Vitalogy very much. So I bought No Code the day it came out. Invited him over and we listened to it on my dad's really nice stereo.
I was in love with it and he was bored out of his mind. I don't think he listened to it again for several months after that. It couldn't stop listening to it.

It's bananas to me. It took me a while to come around on Pearl Jam.
I didn't buy Ten until after Vs came out. I didn't buy Vs until after I'd listened to it several times.
I bought Vitalogy well after it came out. No Code was the first Pearl Jam album I HAD to have and bought it the morning it dropped.

With Binaural it was worse. Nobody liked that album. Nobody.

It took me a long time to come around on it. And I'd still probably rank it 7th. Maybe 6th. But it also has some of my all time favorite PJ songs on it and I've felt that way since the beginning.

given the drop in power in eddie's voice ive always thought this was a smart shift in his approach to singing. then again i think his vocal melodies are very good. i just think they should be lower in the mix
