Saw NIN Saturday night.

Had plans to go to Mike Doughty Sunday, but didn't. If I'd known Screenwriter's Blues was part of his setlist on this tour, I probably would have.

But since I hadn't done that, I went Monday night and saw Vienna Teng.

Plus, some band called Pearl Jam next week. More concerts in 2 weeks than I've seen in 3 years.

Finally saw the Black Crowes about a month ago. They were incredible. In the top 5 of bands I've seen live.

I saw Built to Spill at Stubb's in Austin this weekend and damn if that wasn't the best concert I've been to at that venue and best show I've been to in a while. The sound was absolutely perfect (it felt like my whole body was being wrapped in crisp, delightful sound) and the cold weather added to the atmosphere in the most positive way. Built to Spill gave a stellar energized performance!
One major surprise was the opening band Genders. They really floored me! Their first album comes out in December and they just have a single out. http://genderspdx.bandcamp.com/

Going to this in March, guys.

http://www.adelaidefestival.com.au/2014 ... zorn_at_60
"Zorn @ 60"

A 60th birthday extravaganza that everyone is invited to, featuring vocal performances from lyricists Mike Patton, Jesse Harris and Sofia Rei, the beautiful exotica of The Dreamers, a powerful and spiritual tribute to the Knights Templar by Moonchild, and the wild abandon of Electric Masada. This is a birthday party like no other, an ultimate celebration of John Zorn.

Featuring Jorn Zorn, Cyro Baptista, Joey Baron, Trevor Dunn, Jesse Harris, Mike Patton, John Medeski, Ikue Mori, Sofia Rei, Marc Ribot, Jamie Saft and Kenny Wollesen

Saw a sextet play the entirety of Miles Davis's "Kind of Blue" this weekend. Really good.

Saw Joseph Arthur with Mike Mills and Bill Dobrow last night and they put on an excellent show, and so did their opener Caroline Rose, all are really worth seeing if you get the chance.

The club we saw them in was tiny, a sold out show is probably between 100 and 200 but the weather was terrible last night, freezing rain and lots of water on the ground to potentially freeze over in the early morning hours, and because of that id say the crowd was around 30. We are pretty used to seeing members of the bands walking around before and after the shows with out anyone bothering them too much usually because they aren't all that known, but it was crazy sitting in the restaurant/bar area of the venue before the doors and seeing Mike Mills sitting there eating dinner and then walking all around during the opening band and stuff.

Muse/Birds of Tokyo. Not a bad show, Birds of Tokyo's set list was predictably all singles off their last 3 albums, so they virtually ignored anything prior or great songs that were non-singles. It was a shame, because I'd like to have at least heard The Baker's Son.

Muse played brilliantly and tightly, as always. But their stage set is pretty over the top now, with a circular catwalk around the back of the stage, and a phallic cat walk extending from the middle of the stage into the audience. There was also a 'tree' of screens above the stage that moved up and down during some of the songs. It was like the stage was a giant cock and balls. Pretty good set list though, and they played pretty good mix of songs from most of their albums.

Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of Muse's studio albums (I really only go into Absolution), but I still rate them pretty highly as a live act.

Elton John. I had fun, but it was a little underwhelming.
