RIP Chris Cornell 1964 - 2017

One of the most interesting aspects is the timeline. I'm hearing the show didn't end until around 11:15 pm. It would've taken Chris at least 15 minutes from the end of the show to get to his hotel room in my estimation. That doesn't leave very much time from when he arrives, to when they're breaking down his door to discover him unresponsive on the bathroom floor.

I'm sure as the days go by, more of the story will be revealed and maybe we'll have a better understanding of that night. Or maybe there will always be a foggy uncertainty that hangs over his death. Still so many questions, but unfortunately the outcome will always be the same.

Without speculating too much, there has to be more to the story of why they broke down the hotel room door. If the concern was he took two more sleeping pills than he was supposed to, its reasonable to assume he is passed out and is not answering the door and/or phone. Door gets broken down at 10am when he doesn't show up to the tour bus the next morning, not at midnight. Something had to have triggered major concern, and I doubt it was slurred speech.

I think I read something saying his wife became concerned when he stopped responding to texts. The slurred speech, and this, might have been enough to warrant concern and a check-in. If he wasn't answering the door, I guess breaking in was the next step if they were worried and no one had heard from him.

Man, im so glad i got to see him so many times...Everyone of them was special, specially Alpine...it felt surreal...i was with my ex gf, we were on this great trip together, celebrating PJ and Temple Of The Dog was playing right there.

I was in Dublin when I heard the news. 7 hours ahead of my normal time. I got the news around 930 am from a story that had been written about 45 minutes prior. So it wasn't too long after the show - couple hours or so

just after midnight, the bodyguard breaks into his room and finds him

i'm no expert, but the ativan playing a part in this makes some more sense.

i'm all for more open discussion of depression and suicide, but maybe we need some of the same about these pharmaceuticals that are handed out like candy

For the record, the person who wrote that piece, Maura Johnston, is a longtime Pearl Jam and Soundgarden fan and has written favorably about those bands for P4K, Rolling Stone and other sites. This isn't some hipster jumping on a deceased singer's bandwagon, though the parade of fawning retrospectives that inevitably follow a musician's death always feels a bit crass

Listening to the Singles reissue today. The 5-song run of Evermore, Chloe/Crown, Birth Ritual, SOLAT and Overblown is one of the strongest on any album ever.

I guess I blame the editors of Pitchfork more than anything.

I'm not some Rollingstone apologist and I realize how cool it is nowadays to slag RS, but just from a writing quality and journalistic standpoint, Pitchfork can't hold a can of water next to the writing talent over at RS. But I digress, I think there is better writing talent out there just in the random the nooks and crannies of the internet.

There's a guy at Stereogum (now talk about a schizophrenic site), Ryan Leas, who is really good at covering guitar rock bands.

The first Audioslave album has some great songs. Obviously Cochise is one. Show Me How to Live is awesome. Gasoline too. Those three to open the album... wow.

It's always been an underrated and unnecessarily bashed album IMO. I can understand why folks were turned off at OOE and Revelations, but the first album was gold. Shadow On the Sun, I Am The Highway, Last Remaining Light, Getaway Car, Like a Stone, those were classic Cornell lyrics.

I'm still in disbelief to be honest. I can't comprehend how his genuine happiness and outlook on life has ended in a suicide (anyone who follows him on social media will undoubtedly surmise that he put his family first above all else). I was in the Augusta, GA airport when I saw the news ticker and yelled out 'what the fuck'. Not a smart thing to do near airport security, which by the way I don't even remember walking through because I thought I was dreaming. The man I've followed for close to 20 years, who pretty much comes across my playlist on a daily basis is now gone.

When I saw the news and had a few mins to process it I immediately thought stroke or some kind of massive heart attack, some kind of freak medical emergency. Suicide or drug overdose never once entered my mind, which shows how much I believed in his sobriety and outlook on life. I imagined him growing old gracefully like Robert Plant, still putting out albums that may not be everyone's cup of tea, but still sounding damn good doing it. My most anticipated album over the next year was, in fact, whatever Soundgarden would crank out next.

A day later I think it's even more devastating to me now that reality is sinking in.

BTW, kudos to many of you for the beautiful write-ups on here. It's truly endearing to see how many people he's touched over the years. I'm writing this from work so it's a bit rushed, but had to say something as I've had the lump in my throat all goddamn day.

Listening to the first Audioslave record last night was quite a cathartic & sad experience. Been too long since I revisited that one. The man was a musical genius of the highest order. Will take a while to get over this one.
