Sleeping By Myself will be in a lower key. Guitar instead of uke. So it could be sadder or more aggressive. Basically, I hope it's that, instead of more poppy and featuring lasers.

how funny would it be though if the song people seem to love from the tour video is somehow sleeping by myself, the song people seem to be the most unhappy with being included on the album.

but i have no idea about the tour video song, i kinda feel like its just gonna be the ending of track 1 since on the video it switches right to MYM and they might have been lazy and just took a clip out of that transition

Yeah, it's possible. If it's the moody outro or into to a song, that song could be pretty cool... or it could s...

I *much* prefer these song titles to Backspacer's ones. But which ones will Brendan O'Brien ruin? Potentially a lot of them. Should we start a thread?

To be honest, while I'm on board the BOB Hate Express, it is purely because the picking has been fun, but deep down I know BoB has nothing to do with certain songs sucking ballz. It's the writing on them that sucks, not which buttons Brendan pushed and which levers he turned while recording them.

It's not either / or, it's both. We know how much Brendan influenced the pop-production sound on Backspacer, and we also know which tracks he intervened on in the writing process, which he totally changed in a fundamental composition sense. Why? To make them 'more commercial', more successful', blah blah blah. But yes, the songs were also weaker on Backspacer. But how much weaker? They were weaker on S/T as well, but many more people enjoyed at least some of it.

What I'm saying is, if BO'B hadn't produced Backspacer, it's very unlikely they'd have done what they did to SOS, and there's no way anyone would've rearranged Just Breathe. BO'B is tripping.

But Supersonic is Ed's fault.

I'm one of the few who enjoys Backspacer a lot more than s/t, so...

I would agree with you, overall. But I don't want another one. Although I preferred most of the songs on Backspacer, I disliked the production in a whole new way, and I don't like that the songs are mostly 3 minutes long. I didn't want Pearl Jam to become a pop band from this point on, and I don't want BO'B mucking around with the arrangement of the songs, or playing shit piano all over them. He's a producer, let him produce. PJ are the band.

Anyway, those are my issues. In the end I don't really care as much as it sounds and my posts about BO'B sucking are tongue-in-cheek as well. If the songs are good on the next album, I'll be happy enough.

I sometimes think Supersonic went down like this:

Stone: Hey guys, I wrote this cool groovy/bluesy riff. Maybe we could make a song out of that?
Ed: Ah Stone, that won't fit on Backspacer.
Stone: Oh come on Ed, I think its really good.
Ed: Okay, I have an idea. I wrote this awesome punchy tune about listening to music. We could just stick your riff in the middle of that.
Stone: I don't think that would work.
Ed: Wah wah wah, don't be a crybaby Stone. You can have the writing credits if you want!
Stone: Oh whatever.
Ed: Yeah yeah yeah!!!

Anyone else worried one of these tracks is going to be a complete "Hey Fahkah" throwaway? And if so which track is it?

Don't get me wrong, I loved paying $1.29 to fully understand exactly how Ed reacts to botching a song, but I sincerely hope that shit stays off this album.

Sleeping by Myself is probably the short 'n sweet "throw-away" one on LB... similar to Soon Forget
