Theres been studies done on suicide. They found that a person with suicidal thoughts is more likely to attempt suicide if they have access to a gun.
So yes, its a mental health problem, and they've already proven that the gun, pushes people with mental problems to do bad things. Get the gun out of the house, and the suicidal person is less likely to attempt it.

The mental health issue is a far bigger topic with far more problems, and will take years to sort anything out.
But we can take a measures to decrease the chance of mentally unstable people getting access to guns. This should seriously not be a topic at this point.

A former coworker of mine recently shot and killed her husband, young infant, and herself while dealing with post partum depression. Her husband bought the gun when they found out she was pregnant to protect the family. Shit like that is just so incredibly sad/depressing.

What changed though? For decades kids had easy access to guns but didn't go on shooting sprees. The place I grew up had plenty of guns, but no one has ever been murdered there. Now it's different.

It goes back to this emergent sin thing I was talking about in another thread. Now, because something has changed, we have to have less freedom. This is progress?

The number of gun deaths has remained pretty steady over the past 25 years. A few years higher and a few years lower, but overall fairly steady.

Native Americans did not have a single word for "murder" before the Europeans showed up. The first "murder" happened in the Mohican village after 2 things were introduced. Guns and Alcohol. So the "Godless Savages" were doing just fine without God's people.

Gang violence and opiod related homicides are likely more of a cause. Just don't get the headlines.

I was just speaking specifically about school shootings, not overall gun deaths.

I also believe there is less crime in the 21st Century, than in any century before it. Not including all the people being killed in the great wars. So the narrative that now is worse, is probably not true. Still doesn't mean that things shouldn't change. Especially mentally unstable people, should not be allowed to buy guns.
