Two of you put Racer 5 in your top 5? I mean it's drinkable, but really? Top 5?

I love it. Perfect balance of drinkability and hoppy IPA goodness. Very crisp.

As an IPA I'd say it is right in line for what I'm looking for in drinkability, I also always get a sixer whenever I find it; that says something considering my purchasing habits. I'm also a big SN PA guy but having to choose one pale I went with ZD. Where's your list Dpup?

Well like I said its drinkable and decent, just didn't see it as a top pick. Maybe since it's on draft at the 2 closest pizza joints from my house as well as heavily stocked in the Winco beer cooler around the corner I'm just jaded

St Ides
Steel Reserve
Natural Ice
King Cobra
Mickeys Bigmouth

And when I want just refreshment I fuck up some Zima's

I could pick a top 5 of beers with the same ease as picking a top 5 list of songs- never happen and often changing

You lucky bastard. Olde English 800 was just narrowly edged out by Old Rasputin in my top 5

What the hell does availability have to do with anything? I can get beer by Bell's, Founders, Dogfish Head, Green Flash, Odell, Avery and several other breweries at the convenience store a quarter-mile from my house. That doesn't mean those breweries don't make great beers.

Availability merely leads to being jaded and unappreciative. Take Sierra Nevada for instance. I've been drinking that beer since the early 90's when they were but a lil brewery and little breweries didn't stand a chance against Coors and Buttwiper. Always been a solid company and their Pale Ale is great. But it's always been readily available and I've drank so much that nowadays I rarely purchase it. Especially living in a region with so many standout local breweries and such a range of choices.
Like I said Racer 5 is drinkable and decent, just doesn't even crack the top 10 list.

So the harder it is to get for you, the "cooler" the beer is to drink?

Well there's certainly a satisfaction in the hunt, but no not uniformly. I've sought out a number of things I found to be awful and will never drink again. All I'm saying is with so many beers out there in general, especially in this region, that I'm often changing what I drink and many beers fall to the wayside after a few purchases. It's not to say I don't like them or whatnot. Just so much to try out there

If any of you showed up with a Racer 5 six pack I would totally drink it and be happy. Just doesn't find it's way into my cart anymore.

Impossible to rank a top 5 since I like to try something new every time I shop for beer. But, these are easily found locally, are solid "go-to's", and won't break the bank either:

Victory Prima Pils
Founders Centennial IPA
Ommegang Witte
Bell’s Two Hearted
Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA

(I never cared for SN Pale Ale either, doug rr. Though I always admired that they seemed like one of the first craft brewers out there.)

I miss Pete's Wicked Ale. Pete fucked himself trying to get too big too fast. He tanked right after his IPO trying to be like Sam Adams. Opened the big brewery back in the Midwest somewhere, then I think Anheuser Busch bought it out for pennies on the dollar and dismantled the brand. Back when the big breweries were just starts to realize the threat the craft revolution was becoming and they were trying to crush it
