Cruz, right?
Yeah. It was a tough call between him and Rubio.

Do you think Trump would get assassinated if he were elected?

Yeah, I was just about to say that if Obama hasn't, I doubt anyone will.

I'm shocked an attempt hasn't been made on seemingly anyone since Reagan in 1981. Either the Secret Service got a lot better or we've been just real lucky.

Well, Bernie sued and got 17 year olds the right to vote in the OH primary if they turn 18 before election day in Nov.

Isn't that how it's done in many states?

This is true. It is as neo-fascist as anything that is called that in Europe though.

There is parallel between the neo-fascism in Italy, where it was born, and the aspect of Trump's politics that involves the 20% of his followers mentioned above. Italy got the luxury to sweep their fascist war and pre-war crimes under the rug and blame what didn't fit on Hitler. This made possible that there was a continuity of the mentality that was behind those crimes that still exists to some degree and it's why parties openly and proudly associating themselves with fascism exist and do well or get to govern. Berlusconi (an obvious analogy to Trump) wasn't above fascist apologism or creating alliances with those parties to get extra votes. They also have their own version of exceptionalism which is related to fascism even if it seems harmless on the surface.

I'm from an area close to the border that went trough all the regimes and had all the ethnicities in the closest proximity. The anti-Slavic fascist mentality on the Italian side was always quite lively here. I remember about 20 years ago it wasn't considered wise to speak in our languages across the border and the nickname for us - slave - was still widely used. I think even the fact that all of us are still referred to as Slavic is also diminishing because it implies we're more primitive and undifferentiated. It's also limited to us in Europe as no other countries are grouped this way besides us.

I think a similar thing happened in the US after the abolition of slavery and all that followed from the violence to the segregation. I think when everything related to the ideologies isn't banned and outlawed and the violence and discriminatory practices aren't banned and recognized as horrible as they are, they leave room for the mentality to continue. I mean this isn't what free speech is all about.
It's where Trump becomes a neo-fascist and why he has such a large following relative to the extremism of what he represents. I think the least a country does to acknowledge and appropriately address its xenophobia related crimes the larger is the number of people who either have or tolerate extremists views. Trump is really Berlusconi transposed to the USA.
They both represent the caricature of the exceptional member of their nation, both extremely divisive figures that are a symptom of the myth that they are part of a nation that can do no wrong.
It will be really interesting to see what the effect of his campaign and likely nomination will be in the long run.

I think the Secret Service got better.
I wouldn't be surprised if the security around Obama was planned assuming an even higher risk of assassination existed than it would be otherwise.

It isn't, but someone like him getting close to it is worrying enough.

Trump's a singularity. If he didn't have his money, his profile and his weird charisma it would have been impossible for him to get this far. The election environment he's walked into has allowed him to flourish. It is hard to imagine this happening again.

While this is probably true I'm definitely heartened by the increase in protesting at his rallies.

Just to be clear: I support peaceful protest, not people rushing the stage or throwing things at Trump.
