not groundbreaking, but as a streamlined look at grief it works; effectively shot, good sound design, and a few genuinely scary setpieces
yeah, i didnt love it but it was compelling enough for me to finish it. Some cool moments for sure.
- Spoiler: show
- I wish it had ended very simply, with the father closing his eyes; didn't need the jump scare with that hint of the mother attacking imo; there was so much carnage throughout the movie that a peaceful ending would have worked well

eh, it was OK.. kinda whimsical .. not as good as Nightcrawler as a movie about an ambitious sociopath... should've gone deeper into her character and stayed away from the whole 'clever heist' and 'woman empowerment' things .. seemed kinda outta place here

The "girl power" bit is part of the satire. I don't think the movie functions the same way without it.

i'm not sure they were going for satire with that

The movie wields satire like a sledgehammer, it's not exactly subtle.

to me it comes across more as being about a woman rightfully scorned by the mistreatment of men and belittlement of society and unfair lot in life who isn't going to just roll over and be a "lamb" and does whatever it takes to be successful and it's almost like it wants you to sympathize with her and her horrendous actions.. i think you may be reading too much into what might not be there ... if it is there it went way over my head which isn't exactly surprising .. but either way it could've been done much better i think .. i think they should've just gone full patrick bateman or lou bloom with her character.. it would've been more controversial but way more interesting

goddamn i hate that i feel so much empathy for this character... his condition/addictions are very convincingly portrayed.. it's visceral.. i just want the chaos and suffering to stop.. i guess the ending provides catharsis

yeah it's definitely satire, she exploits "goodness" in order to do some horrible things
