Was out with my most knowledgable & thoughtful music friend last night and talked a bit of Pearl Jam (R.E.M. is to him what PJ is to me).

He has a strong preference for the Vs-Vitalogy-No Code run and is lukewarm on everything beyond that. He's always praised Vitalogy as an obvious masterpiece of a rock record, but last night I was surprised to hear him say he's listened to No Code several times in the past month. He went on and on about how much he was loving it.

Anyway, when DOTC came out I posted a link to it in a group chat we're in, but he didn't ever comment on it or even confirm he'd listened, so I wasn't sure what his thoughts were. I'd kind of assumed he was politely keeping his opinions to himself. But last night he was talking about wanting to see them again when they come through in March (he's seen one show with me in the past), and was like, "I'm just realizing there won't be many more chances to see those guys. And the new song, it's fucking awesome, and it's great to get anything like that from a band that's been around for so long."

This warms my heart. Several of my friends shared similar thoughts.

People from my circles who are generally the farthest away possible from anything Pearl Jam have been rocking DoTC on their phones and sending me screenshots. Wow.
