Yeah. The first thing we see of Gene is him secretly watching his hidden cache of Saul Goodman tapes. Gene longs to be Saul again. The last thing we see of Gene is him trying on a Saul outfit and then discarding it. Saul isn't really who he wants to be anymore. Like he accidentally stumbled into telling the security guard: his parents are dead, his brother is dead, he has no one. Like Gene, Saul also has no one. He wants to be Jimmy again.
