The RVM remixes reminded me how much I love ten. And then s/t had them return to the type of songwriting that I prefer.


And honestly, posting on rm made me much more self aware about what I love, what I like, what it am indifferent to, and what I dislike. Especially the guided tour threads and sotm threads

I thought RM was this terrible place where good, true PJ fans were bullied into hating everything that isn't the middle period.

so...

of the "new" songs, this seems to be the consensus:

- My Father's Son:
This song has suprised us. We were intrigued by the reviews but the anger delivered in the song is more intense. Bigger rocker than assumed.

- Infallible:
More poppy than we thought it would be. Overall, we were looking for more "You Are" or "No Way". Even with the poppy chorus, the song is still a favorite.

- Pendulum:
Pretty much exactly what we hoped for and thought it would be.

- Sleeping by Myself:
This one suprises us in a great way. The band elevated the song. Very enjoyable. Much more than predicted

- Yellow Moon:
Not sure it is much different than we thought. A well liked song which is about what we thought.

- Future Days:
We still don't like it.

My Father's Son has grown on me considerably, it's now potential vying for top song on the album. The attitude is killer. I'm not usually a fan of the punkier side of PJ, but they executed both of the "punkier" songs on this album really well in MYM and MFS, especially the latter.

I know nothing about the music consensus in Germany, but from your posts, I'm guessing that maybe it's almost as overwhelmingly cynical as the UK?

It's actually quite the opposite. We have James Blunt at number one and in our album charts Schlagermusik is the most popular. Music like this.



I'd nominate germany for worst taste in europe.

Young people mostly listen to german hip hop like Cro and Casper, bad pop music or rock music in the vein of Billy Talent, Linkin Park and Muse. Oh and right now everyone loves Macklemore and Mumford & Sons.

Oh OK See that's exactly the view I have of most of Europe, I just wasn't sure about Germany. But places like Germany are pretty much what has, over the years, put me off any potential interest in folk metal, or any of the other overly-theatrical genres of metal.

When I was a really alternative teenager 10 years ago this was my favorite band. There's this whole scene of german "folk"-metal.

actual folk metal is always awful regardless of the country

I think someone played me something Finnish a while back that paid proper respect to real folk music. I could respect that without wanting to listen to it again. My main issue with folk metal is that it's shitty folk music. In my head, "folk metal" is amazing, and so when I started listening to it I couldn't understand why what I was hearing was crap and superficial.

Most of the time it's just metal thats about vikings or the dark ages with flutes and bagpipes on top.

Now you can appreciate how hard I have to work to hold back that tide.

folk metal usually just sounds like metal covers of folklore music, and it's very corny and lame (see: Eluveitie)

but every metal band that incorporates acoustic instruments is automatically labelled as folk metal even when they have nothing to do with that

that's not a real thing, right? that's photoshopped, right?
