Sorry everyone. This was the first place I thought of when I heard the news. Big loss.
5:34 AM PT -- TMZ has confirmed with police the family friend had to force his way into Cornell's room and found him with a band around his neck. We're told there was no blood, and police suspect suicide based on the scene.
5:05 AM PT -- A report from Detroit's WXYZ says Cornell's body was discovered on the bathroom floor of his hotel room at MGM Grand Detroit after a show Wednesday night. Cornell's wife allegedly called a family friend to check on the singer ... and police are saying it appears Cornell died from an apparent suicide.

Wow. Holy shit. What a sledgehammer to the gut. Soundgarden just played 30 minutes from my house last week. I didn't go because they were part of a festival lineup that I had no interest in seeing. I figured I'd see them on the tour for the next album. I never saw Soundgarden live. What an absolute shame to lose a remarkable singer and seemingly good dude so young. I really hope it wasn't suicide, for the family's sake.

On the drive to work this morning I blasted the first couple tracks of "Down on the Upside" -- like, louder than I think I've ever asked my car stereo to go. Unbelievably cathartic. Such great music, I'll be listening to a lot of it in the next few days.
Really hope the suicide reports turn out to be false, for his family's sake. Grief healing is one thing after a heart attack or some other act of God, entirely another when someone was so dissatisfied with a life that you were a part of that they felt the need to end it.

For whatever reason the first song I turned to was Burden in My Hand and it sounded fucking fantastic.
I'm not gonna be able to listen to Seasons for a while.

Death by strangulation doesn't necessarily mean intentional suicide, but I don't want to speculate unnecessarily and I'm sure further information will come to light soon enough to make things clearer.

Im not sure its the case. His wife tell someone to check on him. Cornell´s story is full of untreated depression.

Just hours before his death Cornell posted a clip from "By Crooked Steps" on his Facebook account, a song Soundgarden released in 2012. And he posted these lyrics from the song, "I'm the shape of the hole inside your heart."

Im sure Matt will take some time off. Maybe for ever who knows...its a massive blow for him and the guys in SG.
